I can't imagine how anyone could have watched that and thought that time had clearly expired. I mean they had the split screen, synced up video that clearly showed the ball landing in the crowd with there still one second left on the clock.

The only real question there was if the refs were going to say, "damn, look at all these fans on the field, it's going to take forever to get them off the field so we can finish the game, let's just pretend that we don't see what's obviously in front of our eyes and say the game is over."
