Conner's surgery "better than we could have hoped..."

So, the quote from Mike Gallagher, who is a father-figure to James is: "Today, James is one step closer to running for Pitt again."

Interesting to say the least. It kinda sounds that since there is no other knee damage, we could see James back in a month or 2.

Conner is a freaking beast.... If anyone can come back quickly it's him

He definitely did a lot of off season work, hopefully he comes back soon

The recovery after MCL surgery is much faster than with an ACL. Unlike an ACL, which has to be replaced once it's torn, MCLs can be repaired and heal pretty rapidly. It's great that he has no meniscus damage.

I have heard anywhere from 2-4 weeks to 8 months??? I think instead of the tedium discussed in the media, how about one of the cracked Pitt reporters try to find out the prognosis.

Seriously. Could a reporter simply get an official comment from Conner or the coaching staff post-surgery?

Pre-surgery, Narduzzi said his season is over. Post-surgery, maybe that's not the case.

If I were him, I'd do my best to come back by mid-November, if doctors approve, for the stretch run and the bowl game, fingers crossed. Get some game tape for the scouts and hit it hard for the combine.

Flip side, if Ollison turns into Connor Deux, there may not be room for JC to easily return and take over. Strange asit sounds, he'd be an unknown commodity (is he in shape? Rusty?) to the coaches and Ollie would be the hot commodity. Say we're on a major winning streak (I know, I can dream). I'm not so sure I will eagerly risk upsetting the chemistry. And if he gets only a few token carries and no impact as a result, does that tarnish him with fickle NFL scouts, who minimize running backs in the best situations? Is it worth his risk? Maybe he's better leaving them with memories of the great games. ..

Lots of possibilities, don't envy him that.

Edit: I asked the same question a couple did, shouldn't our beat reporters and flagship station be all over these possibilities, as they certainly would if Leveon Bell had similar? Then I laughed heartily. ...

Well I don't think Conner Is the best back in all of college football, so I think his job is secure vs a true freshman. I hope we do have that problem to consider though, would mean our season is going very wel.

Agree...His job is very secure. It will be very nice if things are going well when he gets back, so he can ease into things.

Maybe.

But many coaches might not be so quick to agree.

JC has never actually played much for Duz, remember. Duz may not feel any more loyalty to him than he would to Ollison, especially if the latter helped him start 7-0...

Good problem for Duz (and us) to have but not necessarily for JC...

I hope you're right, but there's very little chance that a freshman is going to come in and do the job as well as Conner. Conner is one of the best running backs in the country and was ACC player of the year. It's not that easy to replace a guy like him.
