Most assistants (even coordinators) are on what are essentially yearly renewed deals, so only 1 year is guaranteed, in case the coach leaves or is fired. Only the upper echelon of the assistants have multiple years guaranteed. LSU's DC would qualify here, along with maybe 10-20 or so others around the country.

Well yes I get that. I guess my question is if buyouts are part of coordinators contracts??

In Canada's case I would say yes. Don't know any numbers, though.

I would say there is essentially no chance Canada has a buyout right now. He probably has the leverage for it with any coming extension or new contract at LSU, though.
