If Army beats Notre Dame tonight (big if, obviously) there's a good chance.

Colorado and BYU both go down today. Wow, what an awful conference. Anybody can beat anybody, and they all suck.

The champions of the Big Ten, SEC, ACC and Big 12 and the highest ranked champion from the American, Mid American, Mountain West, ConferenceUSA and Sun Belt conferences are guaranteed 5 of the 12 spots. It doesn’t matter how poorly ranked (or even unranked) the B12 champion is.

I don't think that's true. It's the 4 highest ranked conference champs

I stand corrected! It’s the 5 highest rated conference champions, which would have included Army as the American champion and Boise as the MWC champion if Army had been able to beat Notre Dame and finish ranked ahead of the B12 champ.

It's not Army that the Big 12 teams needed to worry about. There was no way they were beating Notre Dame, just like there was no way that Navy was beating Notre Dame. The team they need to worry about is Tulane. Tulane was ranked behind only two Big 12 teams last week, and both of those two Big 12 teams lost today.

My guess is that after today Arizona State ends up ahead of Tulane in next week's poll. But they very well could be the only Big 12 team ahead of them. And they could easily lose at Arizona next weekend. The other two loss Big 12 teams are BYU, who is sinking like a rock, and Iowa State, who plays Kansas State next weekend. The Big 12 could easily have a championship game with a three loss team in it (and less likely could have two three loss teams in it). And if that three loss team wins, they are going to have a hard time getting a team in.

14 BYU 9-2
16 Colorado 8-3
20 Tulane 9-2
21 Arizona State 9-2
22 Iowa State 9-2

The committee kind of screwed up in that Tulane is over-ranked as they have 0 quality wins but it is what it is. On Tuesday, it'll probably be something like:

15 ASU
16 ISU
19 BYU
20 Tulane
22 Colorado

If those 4 Big 12 teams lose next week, which isnt likely, but possible then I dont see a scenario in which a 3 loss Big 12 champ gets in over an 11-2 Tulane. I mean, I would out a 10-3 B12 loss champ in but the committee screwed themselves in over-ranking Tulane. Tulane finishes with 9-2 Memphis and 10-1 Army so its not like if 9-3 Iowa State beats 9-3 Arizona State in the B12C that they can make a great case to leapfrog Tulane.

So yes, the Big 12 is in danger of not getting a team in.

Army needed to win. Not just for the possibility of them winning out but for the weight that Tulane beating them would hold. I factored both of these possibilities into my original post; I didn't forget Tulane. No way either of these teams are getting in over the Big 12 now.

Need ASU, BYU, ISU to lose so that B12CG is 9-3 vs 9-3.

Even a 3-loss Big 12 team should get in over the AAC, in my opinion. Tulane and Army have best nobody.

I think they should too but they have Tulane ranked far too high. Their 2 losses are decent but they have 0 good wins. As bad as Pitt is, I'm not sure Tulane should have been ranked in front of Pitt going into this week.

Agree, but I expect one of their famous overcorrections where they'll shoot ASU way up or something this week. Then if someone beats them ita a better win, etc.

This is why I dont think they should do CFP rankings until Selection Sunday. Its hard to evaluate partial resumes and then you have to over-correct. 2-loss Tulane being ranked is a little ridiculous
