--first, this game was about a talent gap more than anything.

--but, Roy Williams made an interesting substitution which really worked In their favor.

--while coach Dixon I think blew it by not getting Robinson a sub at all.

--you're asking quite a bit for a guy to be the primary ball handler being checked full court at times and then guarding their guards. He tried to pair him vs Jackson for a couple possessions but that didn't work.

--thought Maia gave us some good minutes but one half foul trouble and next half coaches decision didn't play.

--one thing that really bugs me is coach Dixon will sub a guy the rest of a half with 2 fouls than not really play in the 2nd half and the guy might end with 3 fouls. He's done that a couple times with Jeter when Sheldon was having a good 1st half. Who cares if he gets 3 of you aren't going to play him in the second.

--we will win as long as we get production from the 2 position. And we lose when we don't.

--when jones was playing well we were playing well. Yesterday cam Johnson and we win.

--coach's hair literally made me lol. By the end of that game he looked disheveled. He certainly wants to win and I value he cares, but his sideline demeanor can be quite the spectacle and he doesn't do himself any favors with the officials.

Meh - I could rattle off any number of coaches of good P5 teams who are intense on the sidelines, arguably even worse than Dixon. The whole "sideline spectacle" is a non-issue IMHO. It's not like the guy is kicking chairs across the court.

Rattle them off then.

Tom Crean
Thad Matta
Buzz Williams
Frank Martin
Bob Huggins
Rick Pitino
Tom Izzo

This is just off the top of my head.

Well we disagree on several of those. Secondly I don't think it's a good thing to behave like Frank Martin or pitino or especially crean.

Anyways the real point of the above post was it the spectacle that he is. By the end of the game today his hair was messed up, he had a strange smile, he looked like jack Nicholson out of the shining. I found it funny.

Don't forget Boeheim and Wojo as well. Those guys lose their minds as well.

I agree on Dixon's sideline demeanor. I'd prefer he handled himself better. We've all been saying he needs a new haircut for 10+ years,

Bob, my point was the concern about Dixon's "behavior" is mainly a local thing. No one else really notices or cares about it. And the antics of many of those coaches I listed do not hold them back. It's just the way it is.

This is just off the top of my head.

Add Shaka Smart and Sean Miller to that list also. They are both total maniacs.

That simply isn't true.

He behaves much differently than tom izzo or buzz Williams or Thad matta and even Huggins to a degree. Those guys play to their players emotions. Jamie Dixon spends 40
Minutes each one looking more disheveled complaining to officials.

He is mentioned as having one of the worst sideline demanors. In 2014 after boeheims rant Jay bilas was on cbs radio talking about coaches behavior and mentioned Dixon as one of the worst. And that doesn't do him any favors with the officials. I actually found his behavior to be humorous today. He looked like he just had been delivering a baby for a couple hours. It isn't a big deal.

Buzz jumps around so much he sweats through his shirts half the time. And I love him. Favorite opposing coach ever.

Brian Kelly and Pat Narduzzi both yell on the sideline in its simplest form.

Brian Kelly spends his time screaming in his players faces telling what they did wrong. Narduzzi is generally trying to uplift.

It isn't the same.

Quite simply from the way he addresses the post game handshake to how he handles officials Jamie often times comes off a whiner similarly to Boeheim. But he doesn't seem to have the charm to that Boeheim has or maybe the pedigree to pull it off.

I find it to be funny this is the one thing that gets pointed out of those thoughts. It was funny to me today.

He was awful

Pres/Bob,

I generally would have agreed with you in years past but this year and especially today, I think JD has relaxed a bit. In past years he looked like he was strung like a banjo. Today I think he looked more relaxed and was even laughing with the refs over an explanation. I do think that coaches demeanor can rub of on players. Teams tend to play uptight and pucker up in tough situations when the coach does the same (see DW). I think JD has improved in that area this year.

Oh I've commented on his hair plenty. I like Dixon but his hair can make him look dopey. Not a fan of any type of comb over wig piece. Looks silly. Just like the guy with the bald dome and the bozo/fro like sides. Or using some color that doesn't exist in the natural world. Or plugs. Or rugs.

Bob Huggin's "plays to his players emotions". What does that even mean? The guy absolutely can go off on his kids to the point of making observers cringe. I have never seen Dixon yell or berate one of his players on the bench. If you think Huggin's is "playing on a players emotions" by screaming at them, have at it. Have you ever seen Thad Matta when he is angry at one of his players? Is this what you want? I'm glad Dixon acts differently!

Add I can't believe we are actually discussing how disheveled he or his hair looks. Who gives a sh*t?

You must, you made it a big deal. I found his behavior to be humorous today. Ask former players of Bob Huggins and Jamie Dixon about their former coach and you'd be surprised what the answers would be. Or if you're ever fortunate to attend a Pitt practice report back what you hear and see.

You're the one who started this thread, not me. I was responding to your OP:
but his sideline demeanor can be quite the spectacle and he doesn't do himself any favors with the officials.

Okay, I'll bite Bob. You seem to know what the "answers" are. Care to share? And I have no idea about practices. What do practices have to do with your OP?

Right that's my quote..

Spectacle-
anything presented to the sight or view, especially something of a striking orimpressive kind:
The stars make a fine spectacle tonight.

And he doesn't do himself any favors with the officials. That isn't even debatable.

So what's wrong with that quote???

And to suggest he acts the same as tom izzo?

I don't see where Dixon has antics per SE. It is simply that he always is directing. I watch OSU alot and Matta has antics but he doesn't choreograph every possession.
I don't have an informed opinion either way whether it is good or bad...but I do know that it is not much of an issue when we have better records.

Practices have nothing to do with the OP. You picked one thing out of the original thoughts that you took issue with and have harped on it.

The point about practices is you have zero idea how Dixon treats his players when you say he never yells at them.

Let me ask a serious question and by no means I am saying Jamie Dixon treats his players as poorly as mike rice did. But do you really think mike rice coached here for those couple years and gave the kids hugs?

My handle on the other sites was waltharris4prez
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Nooooooooooooooooo.

And I never knew, how the heck are you, and how is it possible we are actually getting along? Having kids must have mellowed us. Or made us too tired to argue. :)

Bob - you are spinning this out of control. I never said Dixon doesn't yell at them; I said Dixon doesn't yell at them on the bench. YOU are the one who brought up practices, not me!!!! Honestly I know nothing about their practices, nor does it have anything to do with my response to the OP or the thread in general. Yikes.

My pick is up there, I look like a little man?

What syndrome do you suffer from?

More an indication of not caring about it.

Should have recognized the little man syndrome . :)
He and I were the worst of enemies on Scout. Now we sort of get along. I don't know if he changed, or I changed, or both, but I don't find him to be all that disagreeable. He has had plenty of opportunities to restart old feuds, but hasn't. I think that's cool.

I don't have the energy for any of it, to be honest.

That's nice of you.

I was in my 20's and single. Life was different.

Now I'm in my 30's married with two kids. I try to be different. That's my thing I guess. I certainly can be self righteous like you said he other day but I try to act in a way on here that I would act in real life. I wouldn't tell me to shut up after they give an opinion at chipotle why would I do that here? I see that you have made an effort as well and I respect that.

I can regress at times but I'm trying to evolve. Next step is not caring that others aren't trying to do the same thing.
