What does he bring us?
For starters he is a pg,
something we don't
have. He's experienced,
local, has decent stats,
and wants to be here.
He averaged 14ppg last
year. His assist/TO ratio
is fair, not great.
If Femi stays (and that's
not definite), we have
a backcourt probably
better than last year's
( Burton, Cummings,
Femi, Sibante, Santos).
Femi and Sibante could
also play the three. I
gotta believe another
guard or two will be
added.

This is only a start, Capel
needs to do MUCH more
with transfers. I know, I
know.....Captain Obvious
here.

Nelly is not a point guard. Though they will try to make him one.

They recruited him to play PG. But he a scoring guard who isn’t pass first. But at his height he has to play PG and we are dying for a PG so that’s where they will play them. Expect a lot of one on one from our guards.
I should have figured out
his true position when I
checked out his A/T0 ratio.
Capel would be better off
getting a true pg, and let
Burton and Cummings play
off guard. They need guards
and even more so now that
Femi is gone.

Santos needs to improve
big time. He's supposedly
a shooter but 32% from the
field, and 22% on his threes is
beyond bad. I expect to see
a few more guard/wing types
added.

They need a lot from the portal. And not a lot of misses.

I've only seen him play twice, vs us and in the tourney. Both times he made bad decisions in the last 2 minutes of the game that cost his team. Something we have seen far too much of here in the last several years. Having said that, and considering everything else, it certainly can't hurt having him here. But this program desperately needs a true PG, but so do a lot of teams.

One on one from our guards is more or less Capel’s “system.” In fairness, it’s a pro system, and a system that works for plenty of college teams too. But it hasn’t worked well so far for Capel.

This is what has been the biggest disappointment for me, going from the JD pass first system, (when it was working with better players), to this system of dribble, dribble. Watching St Pete's pass, cut, replace, system during their run was a joy!

I would suspect the talent level of those teams is far greater. At least at guard. He can’t get the level of players he needs to make that system work. And clearly he’s gonna live and die by it because there’s not much to indicate any willingness to change/adapt.

Agree. Maybe a different conversation if we had a point with the talent to run this system.
