Blaine Spires went a long way to end up close to home.

The Youngstown native started his college career at Bowling Green, two and a half hours away. After four years with the Falcons, he entered the transfer portal and landed even further away - this time it was 26 hours, as Spires ended up at Utah State.

In 12 games in 2023, he recorded five sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss, and he entered 2024 expected to be the Aggies’ top pass-rusher. But his senior season was cut short by injury, and he entered the transfer portal one more time.

On Friday, he arrived at Pitt for a visit, and by the time he left on Saturday morning, Spires had made the decision to be a Panther.
