Marcus Carr is going to be really good. The team did not turn it over and played under control, and it started with him. So poised and calm in this game. Even let a headlock go at the end of the game. He is at his best in the open court euro-stepping and bouncing through the lane. So crafty around the rim and understands how to finish creatively. This kid is the future.
Every time I see Shamiel Stevenson in person, he just stands out. Physically, he is at another level. The sheer depth to his frame is incredible. Every time he gathers himself around the rim, it makes you start to stand up. There is some concern for me that once he puts his head down, he loses his vision. He forces it too much. But he is just another species of athlete.
Was by far the best game for Kene. Maybe it will give him some confidence. It was a good matchup for him, as Duquesne is very thin inside.
Kham Davis was fine, but I have a feeling he will battle minor injuries all season. You can see the explosion with the backdoor dunk, but there is a lot of rawness to his game. Just hope he can get to 100% physically.
Parker Stewart is now shooting it the way the staff envisioned. The shot is a little slow and low but when he is set and feeling it, it is like a lay up. I still see him being way too programmed, but his offensive game should open up in time. For now, shooting 45% from three will help this team.
Ryan continues to be the MVP of this team. Every time Duquesne got game pressure back on Pitt, he would come up with, or help set up the play. It just seems like every time this young team needs a play, Ryan comes up with it. Shooting it at an incredibly high rate.
Wilson-Frame was not good, but it is a good sign that the Panthers won easily without him. I am not going to exaggerate the struggles recently because I think he will get it back. I would suggest he doesn't rely on the three, as he needs to use his penetrating ability and get to the line. If he isn't shooting free throws, he is settling.
Milli was just okay, and that is more of the baseline for him. Not sure I love the starting lineup with that small of a back court, but it may work for now.
Overall, good win. Duquesne is not a good team and they can't shoot the basketball, but Pitt did what they needed to do and responded several times throughout the game. I think they are starting to build some confidence on the offensive side of the ball. The perimeter defense and rebounding is still a major concern.
