Finally.

247 rates him #154 in their composite ratings. I still dont understand the difference between their composite and their "Top 247."

Champagnie comes in at 111. Drumgoole at 118.

I don't know the whole story on Diallo but its unusual for a a 6'11 kid playing at a basketball factory to go so long being unrated. Anyway, at #154, if that is accurate at all, is indicative of a guy who SHOULD be able to come in and start when there is very little competition in front of him. Of course, it will be tough to beat out O$U.

Dude, ratings are largely based off of potential.
Absolutely no one thinks he will be able to start.

A composite of what though? Are they averaging Rivals, Scout, ESPN, etc
Yes. The composite is the average of 247’s own ratings, Rivals, and ESPN. There’s some proprietary aspects, though, because of situations where Rivals doesn’t nationally rank past a certain point and some players (like Diallo) aren’t ranked at all by one or more of the services so the weighting gets funny.

I’d also be stunned if Diallo would be our starting center in 2019-20 over Brown; he’s about as much of a raw, developmental guy as you could ask for. I still want him in the class, though.

He is a worse rebounder and had worse hands than Terrell Brown?
I don't know. There's little tape of him and I watched it all. It's hard to tell.
But you can tell he's not even close to the top 3 players on his own team.
He's as raw as it gets.
He needs time. He's a very intriguing prospect.

Possibly on the former, yes. Brown is probably a better rim defender right now and actually not a bad shooter. Obviously problem being consistently tuned in though. I think Diallo probably higher ceiling, hopefully can develop quickly. But yeah of course Brown could be the starter game one next season.

you guys over value shot blocks, you really do. I hear you guys all talking about 2 shot blocks per game while im watching the opposing team get 2 and 3 offensive rebounds each possession. we need someone who can rebound, i'll sacrifice the 2 blocked shots per game..

I agree. Having a shot blocker is a luxury, not a necessity. Having a rebounder is a necessity. Need a guy who can rebound at a high level. If Diallo comes here or Coulibaly can rebound better than Brown or Kene, they will start

He is all arms and legs at this point, and is a project. His coach, and you have to take what coaches say with a BIG grain of salt, pretty much concedes he won't offer much offensively, but spoke a lot more affirmatively on how much he has worked on, and could help defensively.

As someone who lost a good bit of hope in Brown this past season, I have a hard time seeing how Diallo bumps him as a starter or for more PT his true frosh year vs Brown in his junior year.

I mean, I will hope for the best if they get him, but I am 100 percent of the mind that if they get one more new addition, make it Sy - he helps immediately, at best is better than Brown, at worst better than Kene - thereby making the team better. And, having a full bodied and reasonably talented guy to practice against might help Brown develop, and provide him more competition to improve.

Then, HCJC can go get a more viable big for the 2020 class.

rebounding is positioning and hands. brown and kene don't fight for position, at all. that's a mindset. Kene might not be physically imposing but brown isn't exactly a stick figure.. dude should be able to hold his own a little better down low.

This guy really has a thing against developmental bigs. Terrell brown has been an easy target his first two years, but he is also a developmental big and shouldn't have had to see the floor nearly as much as he has so far. I expect improvement from him this season. There are so few frontcourt underclassmen that should/could be starting for an acc program, and diallo isn’t an exception despite Pitt’s current limited options on the roster. Ideally we’d add him and someone like Sy who would be ready to play

I think he can possibly start sometime during his freshman year. That doesn’t mean he will.

Yeah absolutely.

People here overthink things. Diallo committing to Pitt is a long range talent. And that is OK. But he can have an immediate contribution by:
1) Everyday, going at Terrell Brown, forcing Brown to become quicker and stronger and aggressive on the boards and finishing at the rim.
2) Giving us that 10-15 minutes of a big tall, wingspan with bounce and athleticism to get a few dunks, a few boards and a few blocks (and a few fouls).

He is not going to come in and be Shaquille O'Neal.

Rim defending is one of the most important things you can have on a team now. Offenses are geared around high screen pick and roll dives and drives to the rim. It's one reason we struggled since Adams left and both Dixon and Capel played more zone than they would want to.

Have you watched Diallo's film?

He has as much of a chance to start at Pitt next season as you do!

so in short, Diallo should or should not be viewed as our savior next year?
Not even close...

I would still take him. He is like a blank canvas as he is only been playing basketball a few years. Lots of development needed, but with good coaching and hard work, Diallo could be a huge piece of the puzzle once his game and his body matures.

SMF is not a starting C in the acc. Not even close. He’s more of a “instant offense” guy at the 2 but only in limited time.

Think vinnie Johnson but in baggier shorts. SMF don’t wear no nut huggers.

Watching a few videos and making an expert post regarding what a kid can or cannot do is ridiculous. Which describes most of you bogus arrogant experts.

If you are 6'11 and aren't a complete stiff, it's very easy to see you are Top 150

BTW, OSU's lead recruiter for Diallo, Mike Schrage was introduced as Elon's new HC today. The quest for our first Top 150ish Big since Steven Adams just became a little easier.

Good to know/see. Haven't really seen any new updates on Diallo, but I'm still hopefully he becomes a Panther in the end.

I want the guy to commit, and everyone calling for him to redshirt to be permanently banned from life, I mean this forum. Lol.

Ah. Steven Adams. Another example of your basketball “knowledge.”
