For all of the talent evaluators out there, assuming we are only taking one more HS OT, and assuming both wanted to commit to Pitt, would you take Dick or Mahogany?

To me, Mahogany is a little more polished, which is to be expected considering the quality of HS ball in NJ, but Dick probably has a bigger upside. I think his frame can support more weight and his arms appear longer, which is important on the OL. However, I would unhesitatingly take both because I think the biggest two spots where we need more quality are TE and OT.

Dick is announcing Wednesday (today) at 1 pm.

Agree Mahogany is more polished but long term Dick may have more upside. Anyways it’s seems to be a done deal Dick will sign with us and we most likely don’t have a spot for Mahogany.

Plus Mahogany is a more of a G. Dick is a OT and we have very few natural OT’s on the roster. Pretty much just Houy and Van Lynn whom are my guess for the starting OT’s.

Collier the huge 6’7” 265 pd TE is one I think will eventually end up at OT. As a TE I don’t see anything special but he would make for an athletic OT with nice upside. Has the frame to hold more weight.

Saying Mahogany is more polished is more of an indictment of Dick than a compliment for him. I agree that he looks more like a guard. I’d bet on him signing with Rutgers anyway.

Liam Dick has to be the angriest Canadian alive. There is a lot to hate about his feet and he’ll get killed if he tries to catch pass rushers like he did in HS but that can all be fixed. He has size and he looks strong. His senior film looks a lot better than his junior film so that might account for his late emergence.

FYI....Mahogany and Dick can both be polished....

Also... Dick always has upside, depending on the situation...

By the way, Kaleb Boateng signed with Clemson. He was an early target for the staff at tackle.

Yes I saw that. Will prob be a good player but funny how even Clemson has back up plans as he was offered on Friday & committed with never taking an official.

Similar to when the Nits stole Givens with a late offer. Boateng was on Clemson’s radar and even took an unofficial but became plan B very late.
Different situation. Givens was a Pitt verbal, and we tried to keep him. Boateng was never a verbal, and we moved on from him.

Mahogany tried to commit earlier this week but Dick had beaten him to it and they had told them they only were taking one. I think that was a mistake as I posted earlier. As for Boatang, we moved on after we filled up at OG because he wasn’t projected as an OT by the staff. With Malone not signing that may have been a mistake. (I think even offering Malone was a mistake.)

What guards did Pitt “fill up” on since June? There are only two OL in the class. I know Boatang had Pitt in his “top three” but it seemed pretty clear he wasn’t coming to Pitt for a while now.

Exactly, pretty well communicated we pull the ship before, talked about on here. He must have more upside that we thought.

Similar to when we stole Mathews off the nits? No, I guess it was more like when we stole Weaver off the Nits, since Weaver never verbeled to the nits, and was only available since Michigan withdrew the offer.

Dick beat him to it?

I don’t think either are that good. This year’s OL recruiting left a lot to be desired imo. None of these guys are as good as the 10 already on the roster.....maybe Drexel.

I’ll take my chances with Houy, Drake, Warren and Zubovic at OT (I think VanLynn stays at TE), and Hargrove, Brown, Ford and Kradel at OG.

If you’re moving a guy like Zubovic to tackle, you’re in trouble.

Goncalves is a kid that doesn’t “fit” anywhere because he played DT and TE in HS and was recruited as an OL-man because he’s just big (Salem recruited him so who knows). Dick didn’t have much good film until his Sr year and he played in Canada. They’re about the same. One is probably rated a little high and the other a little low. They’re both worth a spot without a true solid prospect.
