DL - Finally a Strength

You're right, surely untested. But the potential and depth is promising and encouraging. I think landing Carter is helpful since he already has experience.

Blair, Edwards, and Taleni have played in some significant games. No one will forget the incredible stop Taleni made on Clemson on 4th down. Couple that will players like Carter, who has some experience, and the line does have some experience.

Now, if the LB corps can take some serious strides to assist the DL, this group could be excellent. All of the pieces fit together. Without a strong secondary, the QB doesn't have to wait 3-4 seconds to find the open receiver, which makes the DL look terrible. Conversely, you can have the best secondary, but a poor DL which cannot get off of a block, making the secondary look suspect.

Solid group. The key will be whether we can get a consistent rush on the edge, without needing to blitz. Hopefully it's a healthy Hendrix. Edwards showed glimpses last year. I'm not optimistic on Blair but we'll see. I'm excited to see Pugh on third downs (and Pine at LB for that matter).

If any of those guys makes a leap like Soto did last season - we'll be in good shape.

And it was Edwards who made the equally important textbook stop on 3rd down against Clemson...

This is clearly the most talented overall DL personnel we've had in a long time.

Wannstedt really had some effective D-Lines... 2009 for instance I believe we had a roster of Romeus, Sheard, Lindsey, Mustakas, Caragein, Mick Willams, Duncan, Duhart, Alecxih, Hale, Bokor, etc.

A year later he would add Donald, as well.

Well by 2009, Duncan and Bokor had expired their eligibility and Duhart had been dismissed from the team.. They had a pretty good DLine that season, though.

This years line has enough bodies but probably not that kind of talent. That 2009 was an SEC type of dline, imo. The 2017 dline, at least on paper, does not seem to fit that bill yet.

Good call on Duncan and Duhart, but Bokor appears to have gotten 4 tackles and .5 sacks that year behind Mick, Mustakas, Caragein, and Alecxih.

Well they didn't look like a strength against Northwestern and that includes Blair, Taleni and Edwards. Hopefully, the returning players will have improved and Hendricks and Carter live up to their billing. In my mind the DL is a big question mark.
