Does Dixon get any credit for today?

Uhhhh.. YES!!!! Not even just today, but all season. I put this right up there with the '10 tourney team that beat #5 WVU in 3OT as Dixon's best coaching jobs.
Bought himself a couple years until he is fired too. Probably 5 years of goodwill left.
My friend and I just want to be sure it wasn't just a matter of the kids just happening to play a great game. Or Duke not playing well. Or having any depth and/or being tired. He gets hammered for every loss but barely a peep when they win so I - I mean we - were just wondering.
Ummmmm....no. I still want him around for a few more years - and not just because of his contract. But I'm not nuts.
Variance doesn't happen in one game samples. That's how we determined that BYU has the best home court advantage in all of college basketball when they played San Diego.
Hey, at least he didn't pull Ryan Luther when he's playing great to put in Mike Young and allow Duke back in the game. Maybe he'll learn to coach? Although I have my doubts.

You are the definition of what's wrong with a way too large portion of the Pitt fan base. Youd rather throw it in the "yinzer" portion of the fanbase's face than talk up the Pitt players and team after a huge win.
I get annoyed at certain "JIGs" on here, but they probably are on to something...our fanbase by and large, sucks.
A) Last time I checked it is 2016.
B) Tell me when he makes a Final Four
C) Tell me when he beats U of L again.
A) And in 2016, he is going to the dance.
B) So only coaches who have been to the Final Four know how to coach?
C) He won 5 of first 8 against UL, lost the past 8. But he DOES have 5 wins against Pitino.
Lifetime + a post lifetime extention so we can bit-h about coaching for another 100yrs.
The team and I mean team which includes the staff did well today.
I noticed a lot more on court player communication today thoughout the game! Lots of talk which is like having a coach on the court!

If we played like we did today we'd be undefeated right now.The team played the best game all year in my opinion.Yes,some was desperation, but it would be nice to bottle some of today and bring it out for the rest of the season.And Dixon deserves credit...He had them ready and they responded.
IMHO, there really hasn't been any question about Dixon's X's and O's. The only real question has been recruiting,
Initially it was doing more with less talent (good but not great talent). Then he tried to recruit 5-stars and they turned out to be mediocre to bust 5-stars. Lately the problem has mostly been the lack of a really good low-post player who can block shots and intimidate dribble-drivers and sweep the defensive boards clean.
If we can return to a roster full of good talent with a decent defensive low-post player we will get back to where we were. And, if he can find an occasional superstar to put the icing on the cake for a year or two we will do a notch better in the NCAAs.
Just my opinion. Take it for what it is worth.

Yea. You've got me pegged.
My point of this thread really was pretty simple. People bash Dixon when he loses any game and not much of anything is ever said about how good of a game he coached when they win.
I like Dixon and think he's a good coach. He's not the best recruiter IMO but I hope he gets 3 more years to see if he can get it back to where they were.
And for the record - numb nuts - I did talk up some players in other threads.

Using the criteria of going to a final 4 is just plain stupid. So that means so many people's favorite - Sean Miller - isn't a good coach either. Got it.
Bo Ryan didn't go to a final four until his last two years as a head coach so i guess he was just a terrible coach for his entire career until the end.
Mike Brey sucks. Chris Mack is a bum. And Mark Few has been at Gonzaga forever and he's never been there either. Another loser. The Zags should definitely move on.
Yes, Pitt shot their brains out but continued to get good looks no matter what Duke threw at them
