with fan's tastes and are not afraid to try something new so there is something for everyone. As a season ticket holder in 109 from the opening , the only thing I can thing of is that hot cider/ hot chocolate / root beer wagon under the jumbo tron.

I'm going to go there again: Add Beer and make money.

Back to the food, am I missing something or has Heinz Field been the least innovative fan experience for food and beverage of any stadium in America?

I have club seats strictly so I can have booze. But they add some different spots like that barbecue up in the 500 level and stuff like that. For the most point it's like the usual suspects in terms of food. Pizza nachos etc. we got nakama in club.

I agree PNC always seems to be trying new things to improve fan experience. Heinz sort of is what it is. I really like the South Club addition tho, that turned out great.

Like pittdan touched on, you need other things to keep the fans involved at a baseball game. For the most part, baseball is slow-moving compared to football and basketball and in today's immediate gratification society, attention spans are tested. I mean how many time have you left to go to the bathroom or concession stand at a basketball or football game and said, "holy cow, what happened?" I've actually gone shopping for my kids during a Pirate game at the store in PNC park, came back to my seat 2 innings later and didn't miss a thing. So I think it's just more necessary at a baseball game. That said, beers at Heinz would be a welcome addition-- but I don't necessarily need a James Beard award-winning chef preparing a game time snack. If I want a meal, I'll just go to a restaurant after the game (just me though).

It's the Rooney's. Yinz Stiller fans be good obedient sorts and just stay true to your yinzer diets an' at.

Truthfully, what would you want? Club level has some decent food. But I mean, pizza, sammiches, hot dogs, burgers, football games aren't baseball games. Baseball games are more like "gatherings". Football games, just like the stadiums themselves are more vessels for drunkenness.

I bet an on campus stadium would take more of a Pirate's approach to food options by offering new and interesting things each year because unlike the Steelers, Pitt and the Pirates aren't guaranteed to have sellouts for the next 20 years.

Oh please, here we go ahead.

Recruits said it well, it's football vs. baseball.

One sport has 8 home games vs 81 games.
One sport has traditional tailgating before a game, the other does not.

And it's not like there are no food options at Heinz anyways. Frankly, there's far more option at Heinz than I've seen at other college football stadiums.

Who eats at Heinz anyway! We eat before at our tailgate or bar whichever comes first and wait until the games over and go somewhere nice to eat an drink later!

Not to mention the food is expensive for what you get! But I guess if you bring kids to the game break out the wallet!

Eating in a throughout a baseball game day, is part of the tradition of that sport and fans tends to be willing to wander through countless options and sections. Football tends to be more focused on tailgating with a big mad rush of everyone to the food stands at halftime. Outside of the club, standardized quick-prep traditional items are just more practical and satisfying to most.

Additionally, 81+ home games versus 8-10 home games per pro season probably drives more opportunity for creativity and risks for vending. I suspect far more of their team's annual profit margin is based on baseball's stadium food sales than a football franchise, and probably demands more R&D investment.

However, a few Club Level specialty items seem to turn over at Heinz most years. Curiosity lured me to buy the $15 spaghetti-stuffed giant meatball soon after it was introduced at Heinz. It was fun to try it once... it was quite tasty, but more of a novelty appeal and nothing I craved buying again.

All you needed was the first paragraph.
Go away.... The Wizard is not accepting visitors.

That's true. Got to Nittany Field or Hoopie Stadiium, you get hotdogs, stale popcorn and corn chips. And you will like it,

I actually heard that they are having a real Robata Grill opening up serving Japanese Yakitori with imported charcoal from Japan. Also, a section of Heinz will be like a Brazilean Steakhouse where gaucho dressed ushers carry swords of assorted meats and you are given a green and a red card and they just keep serving it to you. Must be in a Club Selection because a vast number of fine Argentinean Malbec's will be served.

I prefer the Pitt Stadium menu. Dogs in vintage water (changed every couple years), nacho cheese originally intended as grout, "fresh" pretzels hanging for hours, etc. But at least the soccer moms and troop leaders serving them were nice. Unlike the scowlers at HF.
Anybody recall the last few years, where they had a REAL burger grill set up on the ramps up from Gate 1?? That was OK, but the smoke funneled right up through the entrances to the seats. Overwhelming in Sec. 36 at times, depending on the wind.

Rooney's obviously don't have Nutsack's marketing acumen. Nutsack knows how to cater to the obese in the tri-state area who go to the games to gorge themselves as opposed to watching BB. I understand that with a reserved seat ticket you can also get your stomach pumped for free if you overindulge. That Nutsack is a shrewd guy. Anything but BB......

I got a hoot out of this-you nailed it. I think they pumped that water for the dogs up from the Pitt towers' showers-recycling is good for everyone. In the hundreds of games that I attended at Pitt stadium, aside from a coke or a hot choclate, I don't think I ever ordered a single thing to eat or drink.

No offense, but doesn't the Pirates have the 2nd best record in baseball the past 3 years and right now are in 1st place, just off of a sweep of the Cards? Should the Pirates sign some ridiculous contract like Mike Leake, just to make you feel better?

I won't take the Pirates seriously until their everyday lineup is filled with legitimate ML players. 44 first basement played the last 8 years, years with continuing holes at SS, RF, and third base. Any team that thinks they can field a great team based solely on players grown on the farm is deluded. While Nutting may be committed to keeping the team competitive, he's not committed to winning a championship. The Pirates' 98 wins last year was an illusion-they were a poor offensive team who, when faced with good pitching, couldn't hit their way out of a paper bag. Their losing to the Cubs with Arrieta on the mound was a cinch. Their offense has been a problem since they broke through and first reached the playoffs-what did they do to address this issue-nothing! I still believe they will be fortunate to play a tad over .500 this year. The starting pitching is shaky and the everyday lineup still has holes. If Liriano falters, the Pirates are in deep trouble. It's April-I can remember years the Pirates won 7 or more consecutive games out of the gate and weren't a factor in the pennant race in those years. Way too early to suggest that the Pirates will have a great year.

The answer to the original question has been answered. At Heinz, it's about beer, hot dogs and nachos when it comes to concessions. In baseball, like it or not, it's a night out with family and friends just as much as it's about the game. The old codgers can't come to grips with it, but in our ADD society major league and minor league baseball venues have to offer kids playgrounds, between innings entertainment, fireworks, etc and also have to make food and beverage an integral part of a fan's decision to come to the game. That's why the food offerings are much more diverse. Fans at a ballgame will miss an inning to get a good meal from a concession stand or portable. Football fans need options that can be turned and burned quickly.

If you want and expanded menu at Heinz, get club seats. It's a pretty decent experience.

Indeed it is.

It's also harder to go "gourmet", or even "interesting" if you only have a few games...24-28?? to serve. Baseball has such a slow pace that you can go to the concessions all day. In FB, the lines are a bit busy at the quarter mark, crazy at the half. The weather is generally better, too....who wants fancy ice cream at HF in November...or last Sunday at PNC?? And the real reason?? Nutting is good at marketing, gives his fans what they want....a great gameday experience and WINNING baseball. The Rooneys just want your $$$, don't care that HF is a cheapo joint. Just park in garages, buy $9.00 beer and cheer thugs like Harrison or Rottenburger.

It's a football game. Is there a reason to eat anything other than Nachos, chicken, hot dogs or Primanti's? I actually find it annoying to eat at the game. Unlike baseball, football fans need to be engaged in the game. Baseball you can sit and relax.

Again, reread your first statement. Then answer me the following question, Who has the 2nd best record in all of baseball over the past 3 seasons?? That is a 486 game sample size? So if the Pirates haven't been trotting out "legitimate ML players" then what the hell has the other 28 teams been doing that has been below them?

How is 98 wins "an illusion". Especially with the best and 3rd best record teams in their same division? What, do the Pirates play all of their games against AA competition?

Your arguments are infantile and stupid. Just to fit a narrative that you and Mark Madden has. If, if, if, if, IF, ......and the Pirates keep on winning. Over 3 years. Over 486 games. But it is an illusion. Aha.

You have to remember that last season his "proof" that the Pirates sucked was because they were behind the Cardinals in the standings and the Cardinals sucked so obviously the Pirates must suck if they couldn't finish ahead of them in the standings.

Remember, this school has produced thugs like Ironhead, AB, Jabal Sheard, Shady McCoy and TJ Porter....so careful there.

As for the food, is there nothing more sickening than going to a Pirate game on a July Sunday afternoon when it is 90 degrees and the guys sitting next to you decide the best way to enjoy the game is with a bucket of buffalo wings? As someone who LOVES wings, I mean LOVES them, to be sweating and then have some idiots bring a bucket of them sit right down next to you....I want to dump a beer over their heads.

The Pirates were a defective team the last 3 years-I don't care how many games they won in the regular season. The fact they won as many games as they did only tells you how piss poor ML baseball is and if you knew anything about BB, you would realize that. Mercer, Alvarez, Harrison, the lineup of stiffs they trotted out in RF, and first base, Morton, Locke-all garbage. They were a mediocre offensive team that struggled to score in big games-why-because they had a lineup with 3 or 4 holes that made scoring extremely difficult in the the really big games. I watched the pirates the last 3 years during the regular season and I expected that they would lose in the playoffs due to their offensive problems and they did exactly that. They were a flawed team and still are! Keep telling your self otherwise-they're going nowhere. Enjoy the bobbleheads and weenies.

Classic Bucs today-1 for 14 with men in scoring position. Lineup of rinky dinks and bums! They're in mid-season form. 2-1. There will be too many games like this to count without a calculator.

Really silly. BB is a COMPARATIVE situation. That's why they play the games. If Nutting's team is the second-best in baseball ON THE FIELD.......that says a lot. Should their performance be judged alone???

They won 98 games. They played in baseball's best division. You cannot refute the results. You are wrong. Your opinion is wrong. I am speaking in facts. You are speaking in some narrative opinion that has been proven wrong. They have the second best overall record in baseball over 3 years. That is not luck. This is not a 10 game winning streak where teams get lucky. They are good. Or were good.

They weren't good yesterday. But even the best teams will lose 60-70 games. I am talking even the Big Red Machine back in the day. You keep on coming up with opinions, nothing based on facts. Until the Pirates fall back in the back, then you may have something. But to discount what they did the last 3 years as luck is stupid and foolish.

You are wrong. I am right. I am dealing with facts and reality, you are dealing with an irrational hatred of ownership.

If the Tuck shop is still open??? Just roll the food across Fifth Ave to the PAA site and set up shop.

Check their record against teams with a winning record last year- what was it? What was their record against teams in their own division? You are dealing in yinzer think- root, root , root for the home team.

Well, you'd have more choices outside the stadium for sure, without jacked up prices and loud obnoxious music.

They WON 98 games! 98 Games!!! What, do you think every win was against a AAA team? The Pirates beat up on every other division. The only reason why they didn't win 100 games is because poor records against the Red and the Brewers. But they won 98 games! How many times has this franchise won that many?

And you are acting like it is the worst franchise in the league. They are one of 14 teams to make the playoffs 3 straight years over the last 50 years. You aren't that bright. Your arguments are completely false and factless. It is just based on a hatred of ownership. The Pirates can win 20 games, lose 1 and you will take that 1 loss as ownership not spending enough.

And I am not a yinzer who "roots roots for the home team". My posts on these forums should indicate that. And here is a bombshell, I don't trust the Nuttings and don't think he spends what he can and should spend either. But I can't complain, because what they have done so far has worked.

I also believe that:
a) I would not have resigned Russell Martin to that ridiculous contract
b) I would have cut/traded Pedro.
c) I would not resign/extend McCutcheon.
d) I do think that maybe they should have kept Walker, at least until Kang proves he can come back, but I would not extend him either.
e) Hate the Vogelsong extension, thought maybe they should have tried more to keep Happ.
f) There were no real options at 1B, even bigger spending teams stayed away from Chris Davis and his ridiculous contract demands.
g) Realize there is no chance to resign Garrit Cole.

Idiots like you, who you are probably a loyal MM follower, just scream "NUTTING CHEAP! NUTTING CHEAP!" and fail to acknowledge anything that actually happens on the field, except anything that is not good. You just want ownership to spend! Spend on what? If they can get the same production for half the price, what is wrong with that?

MLB is set up the way it is set up. The Pirates can't get emotional and sign some of the stupid contracts that Reds did, or the Brewers, or even the Phillies. My only complaint, is if they are in it this July, and there is the opportunity to add a big piece for possibly a top prospect or two, well it is time to go for it.

You must enjoy things like poking a sharp stick in your eye, slamming your thumb in car doors, stubbing your toe on a living room chair, being in the shower when someone flushes the toilet, etc.
Arguing baseball with this guy is worse than any of those things.

It is literally hitting your head against the wall. I mean, 2nd most wins in all of the sport over 3 years, and the Pirates are frauds according to this guy because they don't spend enough?? Isn't it those big spending teams who have finished behind the Pirates the teams that are frauds? It is like a bizarro world, where the opposite of what happens is real.
