I'm talking from a football perspective, because basketball doesn't even matter right now. But if he has hopes of going somewhere to play football and also play basketball (whether or not that actually occurs), does the implosion of our basketball program also hurt the football program in this case?

I mean, it's not like PSU basketball is going to be confused with the 60's version of UCLA anytime soon, so I'm genuinely asking more so than being rhetorical.

He is a good player, but not a program changer. We need to do what’s best long-term for our program. Capel must go ASAP.

I’m sorry but do you think losing by double digits the entire game HELPS us with Gallagher?

At Pitt or PSU, football will be his #1 priority with basketball #2. So look at it this way, he knows when football season is over at Pitt he can walk right into basketball and get playing time, since there isn't much competition for minutes.

Yeah, that thought crossed my mind. Assuming he is even a football first guy, which I do, might be the wrong assumption. And maybe I worded the original post poorly. But if football is in fact his #1, I'm just curious how much the general toxicity surrounding the basketball program will affect his choice.

I tend to thing he won't end up playing both for multiple years anyway, but I'm sure he at least thinks he will for now.

I said Penn State or Ohio State for football like 3 years ago....and I will be right. He isn't picking Narduzzi over Franklin and Terry Smith

This program is far, far from worrying about how a coaching decision may effect a top 100 player. It is not like we are in with the Sidney Crosby of basketball.

O'connor and Nordenberg were basketball guys. Remember O'connor receieved 12 million for a new arena which he never spent and Nordenberg kept as part of the state support for the "pete"the rest was made up by donations and very generous support by the state. The quid pro quo was PITT play football at the off campus site. In fact I worked on the plan that bussed students to and from HEINZ FIELD.

Who's to say that firing the coach wouldn't benefit their chances? Would likely depend on who is hired. It's not like Capel is locking up commitments left and right. Only Nate Santos last year and nobody so far this year.

Curious, how hard is it to work on a plan to bus students from Oakland to to Heinz? You get paid for that gig?
