not wishing for him to come here. just remember initially the Pitt coaches liked him a lot as a player, he acted like a total douche towards pitt. given him the lamont wade treatment and say no thanks.

Shocking.

It is really unbelievable how bad local products do when they leave the state. Dokish wrote a very good article on this. You almost never see local kids doing well elsewhere.

Western PA kids that go to WVU, PSU, and Ohio St probably do as well or not at a similar percentage/rate as those that go to Pitt. I threw OSU in there as it's actually closer to the area than Penn St.

But the local kids that go to Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Kentucky, Wisconsin, V Tech, etc. do seem to flop like 90% of the time

WVU and PSU, yes. OSU - there hasnt been enough but they've had some good ones. If you take those schools out, you have a hard time counting 4-5 kids who did good elsewhere. Winovich, Lugg.....having a hard time thinking of a 3rd. Dokish's article should be required reading for every WPIAL kid.

Agree OSU sample size is small. Pryor, Hooker, Jordan Hall all come to mind and all had successful college careers. Can't think of any others, good or bad. I know Shayne Hale and Ejuan Price were committed there, but don't think either ever made it there.

Devon Lyons, Evan Blankenship, Andrew Miller, Corey Brown, and Dorian Bell - Did nothing at OSU

I think we wanted him as an OLB and he wanted to play safety.

In the past, I have felt exactly the way you do about local kids shunning Pitt. However I have soften my thoughts on the subject for a couple of reasons:

First of all, Narduzzi is a guy that wears his heart on his sleeve. He can easily hold a grudge with anyone. If he’s willing to put his ego aside and allow a kid in the program that initially snubbed Pitt, then who am I to say piss on him?

If Mcmillon is interested in Pitt I’m sure he will have a conversation with Narduzzi. If he’s good, I’m good.

Secondly, Devonshire has been a great addition to the team. Narduzzi felt comfortable letting him be part of the program. I’m glad he did. We don’t want to turn kids away that really want to be in the program and make a difference.

Demetrious Cox from Jeaneatte and started at safety for Mich State.

I used to feel the same as you but with recruiting as it is today and the portal we are in no position to turn down talented players that want to play here

Khaleke Hudson, Robert Hainsey, Hinish did ok, Miles Sanders, Porter Jr, Sean Lee, Arrington, Winovich, Breaston, Kenny Robinson, Geno Stone, Zane Zandier, Gronk!!!!, Brandon Short... I mean, you could go on all day. The percentages are probably more similar than one might think.

I said the state.

Very few with Pitt/PSU offers did good elsewhere

Rory Nichol had a nice career at OSU

The 2 kids from mckeesport who ended up at Texas Tech??

One played in the league for a few years

And khaleke hudson was a stud at Michigan

He reminds me of Petrishen. He’d be a good star lb in our defense. Not sure if the bridge got burned or not.
I don't agree and said while they were recruiting him, he's soft as Charmin. Kid had no interest in contact in high school. That's never a good sign.

He was never going to last at an SEC school. He won't last here either. Hard pass.

I’m getting old, because I keep misreading the title of this thread as, “Donovan McNabb”, and think, he went to Syracuse.

He was a very good wrestler in HS and the word soft does not go along with wrestlers. It really depends on his attitude. I don’t know the kid or his mindset, but if he were smart then he’d want to play Star in this defense. JP didn’t want to play Star until he got older and wiser.

Imagine thinking Pitt is so good we can turn down good players.

Didn't two dudes from Mckeesport commit to Oregon but then end up at Texas Tech? I sweat one of them was playing linebacker for the Seahawks last season.

but is he a good player right now? can't get in the lineup for a terrible Florida defense. If he came here, the Pitt staff could help him grow & develop into a good player. But they could do the same for any number of similar players in the portal. Why go for the one you already offered the chance to and he not only turned you down, but was very dismissive of your offer. Very similar to lamont wade in the regard.

Devonshire recruitment was nothing like this and it's why he was an easy take as a transfer. Devonshire was respectful and appreciative of Pitt's interest in HS, even though he chose a different school.

You are wrong about Devonshire. There were hard feelings on both sides. Narduzzi made an announcement that our recruiting class was finished, but Devonshire was making his announcement later that day. It wasn’t a coincidence and there was a stink made of it.

Bottom Line - Can the player help the team and does he have the right mindset?

I seem to remember some hard feelings with Devonshire, not exactly sure of the specifics.

There it is

No that was totally different. Pitt was mad because they had received indication that Devosnhire was coming here, then a late switcheroo was pulled - think Robert Foster. That did leave a sting, but that is different than McMillon acting like Pitt is beneath him and it was laughable to him to think he'd go to such a small time program.

I have no knowledge of his wrestling, but he plays soft on the football field. I know exactly what I saw and I'd never want a football player who shied away from contact, especially on defense.

My opinion has nothing to do with him trimming his list from 15 to 14, or whatever the hell he did, just to drop Pitt. I can get over that if I thought he was any good.

Thats the guys.....though i did not know the first committed to oregon

It was interesting to me because they were mckeesport kids that ended up in Lubbock of all godforsaken places.

wasn't there to start season must have been activated at some point. Doesn't change fact Hamlin and Sanders were the best from that class
In college

1. Sanders

Hudson and Hamlin were about equal in college. Hudson was a 2x 2nd team all Big10 player and Hamlin was 1x hon mention and 1x 2nd team ACC player. Both were very good.

But is he talented at this level? Devonshire and Petrishen actually played before circling back to Pitt.
