Don't look but PSU is putting together an excellent recruiting class

Ohio State, Michigan and MSU has some real good classes as well...
Rutgers too!

OSU Old OC Ash and New Rutgers Head Coach is using that Big Ten Money to recruit too!

Count Recruiting Rankings Today But Depend On Coaching Players Tomorrow To Execute Wins!

Good luck to all!

I am going out on a limb and say PSU had better classes than MSU. Coaching matters!

If Pitt wins, they will recruit better. But I wont discount what coaching can do at this level.

Plus, we will see what JF's class looks like if his contract isn't renewed after this season.

Honestly, I am pretty perplexed by this also. It doesn't make much sense to me that we are having this amount of trouble following what we did on the field last year. There's an entire season to be played and things can change but at this point we're at the very bottom of the ACC in recruiting ratings. I would've loved to start on the '18 class by this point. Meanwhile that clown and the peds from Pennsyltucky are off to a really solid start in '18 — how? The guy is a total clown of a football coach.

Psu first colors were pink and black if I recall.Definitely pink. They even painted a horse pink if I recall correct too

Pitt only needs to recruit as well as UNC, Miami, VT and other ACC coastal teams.. PSU needs to recruit better than UM, OSU, MSU, Maryland, and Rutgers... At best on the field PSU is third in their division... At best Pitt wins the coastal.. Who would you rather be?

Yawn...Another Pitt needs to recruit better post.
Yep, Pitt has been yawning for 19 years but still doing better in HOF as other Programs Flame Out in the NCAA & NFL Record Books.

Let's give Coach Pat & Staff a chance to do what he promised to do, and I can wait to watch and see it!

We aren't coming close to doing that as of now...

Pitt is recruiting a nice class. Add in Jeter, and Garbutt and a couple OL and DL types and that is a nice following class to last years. Also Ford is hands down better than anyone at PSU and I think PSU is whiffing more than we know. Franklin has to show he is the real deal or you can kiss his class good bye.

Are you saying the ACC is an inferior league?

Some of you guys (smf) say the same thing every year. Add a 5 star dB and that ranking goes up tremendously. Add a few other 4 stars and we have a top 20 class that narduzzi coaches up to a top 10 class

Where did I say that..I am saying Pitt is closer to the top of their division than PSU is.. both on the field and in February in recruiting.. ITS AUGUST.. some on you need to quit judging a class that is half full and realize what happened last year... I believe Hamlin, Watts, Camp, Miller etc were added later in the cycle.. Duzz will get his share of players and come the end of the cycle Pitt will be somewhere between 25-30 in the nation..

All things considered, this year's class is shaping up to be one of our worst in years (not counting torn apart classes after coaching changes). Long, long way to go but not good so far.

Do you ever do your homework before you make a "shoot from the hip" post?

Last year at this time we had the following commits:

Wheeler
Hargrove
Flowers
Ffrench
Pine
Moss
Garner
McVittie
Ford

That's 9 players

They were all three star players. After their senior years, Pine, McVittie and Flowers were pumped up to 4 stars on some sites.

Players like; Camp, Hill, Reynolds, Campbell, Weaver and Morgan had committed to other schools this time last year.

Right now we have 12 commits, two ov them are 4 stars (Ford & Sibley) and Bright being a possibility after his senior season.

We are also in on a few highly ranked kids. In short, we are on par with last year's class.

Sheesh!

The hand wringers are out in force again in the summer, a half a year away from signing day...just like last year. Pitt ended up with a killer class last year, and will again.

Have some trust in Narduzzi, he really does know what he is doing. He offered Mathews a scholie at WR; Franklin only wanted him on D. Early reports are that he is a beast at the position. But you star and offer slaves with fret your lives away.

I said something similar in a previous post somewhere. This years class in terms of size and "stars" is very similar to last year at this time. I thought Pitt finished well by signing day. Coach will "coach" up the players he has. We will be fine.

I basically meant that right now the class isnt good (on paper). Yes, the samenheld true last year at this time and we finished strong with a Top 30 class. However, you have to realize that is not a guarantee. Sure, we can have a Top 20 or 30 class this year but where we stand right now, we can just as easily have a class ranked in the 50s or 60s. That's what I'm saying. Not trying to be negative. I actually expect a class ranked in the low 30s or 40s but there are a few alarm bells that have to be going off because this is about as bad a start to a recruiting season as can be had.

You just contradicted yourself. Why should anyone expect this class to finish any differently than last year's class? You have one recruiting data point with this coaching staff; why any alarm bells would go off without signs of a downward trend or any real indication that this class is ranked lower than last year doesn't make sense.

I'm in the camp that can't really see this as true. I really like most of what I've seen on these kids. There are one or two that feel like a reach and a couple that I think are way underrated. I think that's normal for any class. I also know that a lot can change for a kid over the next couple months. Injuries for one but some kids don't fully bloom until their senior season.

If you guys that love stars and rankings are worried, go take a look at WVU's class. This board would be going insane if that's what our class looked like.

There are a lot of half-hearted commitments this time of year and the biggest fish are still out there.

Because all we have us 1 year of a great late recruiting push. Will that happen again? It could, it might, maybe, probably. But is it definite? The outcome of a class in the 50s or 60s is at least a possibility and that is concerning.

I agree fully; any number of possibilities exist since we are still 6+ months out from signing day. Because there is so much time left (which could include losing recruits), why put so much stock in focusing on the negative possibilities? PITT could whip the crap out of PSU on 9/10, which raises some eyebrows of recruits both schools were pursuing. On the contrary, PITT could get crushed by the vaunted Moorhead offense and lose some current commits.

Keep in mind the pressure on Franklin is big. He is already limited to PSU as the draw with the infrastructure of offering PSU. Last year he was losing recruits after some bad losses and went after Pitt's recruits in the end. Another 7 win season or not looking like the program is markedly better on the field will be a large influence on his final class. I have posted Franklin has brought in some excellent material but the development and coaching to me is at best average.

Smith is not a top DB coach by any measure. Certainly not in Duzz's class. The new OC while looking good is still a Fordham experience and that high powered offense put 6 and 7 points on Villanova the last two years. Keep that in mind his Conn offense was really pedestrian but that may have been due to Edsal who was a joke. In short I am not impressed with losing and the replacement of the turnover of staff. Ol coach is at best a wash and everyone else is suspect to me. Compare his staff to OSU, Michigan, State and the nits look poor in comparison. Lastly the nits claim that 2017 the program will take off. Looking at the hardest schedule in years for them, not looking good. I see another mediocre wins loss season that year as well.
