Double dribbles:

For the record, during this season I lurked a lot, but never posted as I figured anything I’d say - either positive or negative - wouldn’t have mattered. And also for the record, I became aware - through a fellow Pitt fan - that my name was linked with the infamous Phil in some posts at times. That was not me. I figure that someone was just playing with Pitt Poker (whom I have on ignore, BTW) to bust his stones. But I hope those who KNOW me (virtually) would know that I would NOT take pot shots at any team that Pitt fields in sports competition.

DT, I suffer along with you and the thousands of Pitt BB fans who’ve had to endure both the Stallings and Capel eras. There is no easy nor quick fix. Too many “catch 22’s” out there depending on whether Capel stays or goes. My two cents worth of observation is that if HC Capel stays is that he totally shakes up his staff. But even that might be a Band-Aid.

Perhaps the best thing is for Capel to resign with a minimal buy-out/severance package. Try to find an up and coming coach from a non P5 conference, or a quality assistant from a P5 school.

As I watched Capel’s press conference after yesterday’s game it rang out loud and clear that our program has lacked leadership and the legacy of a winning attitude. Players in this current era of NCAA BB want to win, and those who enter the transfer portal don’t want to go to a program with a history of losing.

Cornette said it best during the last minutes of yesterday’s game that the Pitt HE knew during his time at Notre Dame was tough, and played with a chip on its shoulder. I don’t have that recipe but my inkling is that Capel is not the person to lead or develop that attitude.

I fear we’re in for a few more skunky seasons of BB. But I’ll never stop being a fan of Pitt sports, regardless of how bad a particular team is. The OVERALL feeling at Pitt in the athletic department is strong. Finding a representative BB team - both men’s and women’s - will make it even stronger.

Thanks, Dave, for carrying the BB banner!
