Doug Pederson

Hopefully they play it conservative and run it 3 times.

Will take my chances up 8 and NE with only a little more than a minute left.

see with the 2 minute warning the clock was going to stop anyway, but I can see the criticism that a coach would get calling a pass play there and having a turnover result

Yeah if you were going to pass had to wait until after 2 minute warning.

I wonder if Nick Foles will get a big contract out of this? From a different team of course

Last year the falcons showed everyone the chicken shit approach to coaching with a lead, and expectedly New England made them the butt end of jokes.

This year Doug Pederson showed exactly how to beat New England. I wasn't a fan of the 2 point conversion up 15-3, that almost hurt them big time. But every other call... going for it on 4th and goal, going for it on 4th and 1 with over 4 minutes remaining, loved those calls.

Dumlin coaches like it's 1950- get a lead in the 4th Q and then run clock - that never works against the Patriots

As someone who thinks most football coaches are too conservative, I was excited to see a super bowl with the two coaches who either have the guts, the job security, or the belief in evidence to frequently go for it on 4th down. Great game.

Interesting article about how the Eagles have an analytics guy who talks to the coach during the game about when the "math" says to go for it. Eagles have been the most aggressive team in the NFL on 4th down.

The NFL has to clarify what is a catch and what isn't. They wanted no controversy in this game, but anyone who watched the Jesse James catch-non catch thought one of those in the SB would be over turned.

Easy - If you have possession of the ball as a runner or receiver and the ball crosses the goal line, then it is a TD.

And they only won, in likelihood- because of the strip sack.

Steelers drop the clinching turnover .
Steelers tightend td gets overturned .

Those two plays went in favor of phily.
I see you're making the newspapers these days with your social media assault on James Harrison... Very good look

Good read. Funny thing is footballoutsiders.com and Moneyball were launched/published 15 years ago. NFL culture is pretty conservative regarding new ideas, then everyone copies it as soon as its clear it can work. Same with the RPO stuff.

I mentioned in a previous thread that in 5-10 years teams will all have special clock management advisors.

Many coaches at all levels are not good at it at all and have too many other things going on around them to make mathematically correct decisions.

No doubt - clock management is so important. Speaking of this - college basketball coaches that do not implement the 2 for 1 at the end of the half or game are foolish, especially close games.

Ertz caught that ball at the 6 yard line, James caught it inside the 1. Not comparable
