Duke blew out Arizona State tonight in an exhibition. That’s not super noteworthy, Duke is going to be really good and the Bobby Hurley era at ASU feels like it’s been in zombie mode the last few years.
I’m more curious about if more schools might start to make these secret scrimmages not as secret in order to monetize things. It wouldn’t function like a normal home game, you’d probably split things 50/50 and play wherever you’re most likely to have strong attendance, but it feels like something that benefits both teams.
I know the scrimmages have their value, a lot of times the teams will practice stuff in a controlled setting in addition to whatever they do game-wise, but it feels like in modern athletics it might ultimately be more ideal to just squeeze every penny you can out of the preseason.
