I haven't been following the rest of the ACC (beyond reading what SMF tells us about the quality of the conference). Obviously i saw coach K whining about the season and the fallout from the rest of the bball world accusing him of wanting to quit because his team isn't that good. I'm too lazy to look into this myself, but why is this year considered a down year? Did they miss on some recruits this year?

Too much freshman needing to perform immediately dependency in the ACC this year plus lack of full OOC to allow full early development of the youth.

Packer & Durham had a writer from the local media in the Triangle region this morning and he mentioned that Duke has used 7 or 8 different starting lineups this year so K still is trying to find the right combinations. Jalen Johnson, their 1-and-done freshman, has been injured too (though he is expected to log full minutes tonight). The other issue is that they have really struggled against bigger, more physical teams. Pitt may not be big, but we certainly now they can play tough and physical so hopefully this bodes well, especially considering Pitt has defended the 3 so well this year.

The 2020 HS class (nationally) must have not been that good. Kentucky had the best class, UNC #2, Duke #3 and none of those teams are that good. That's what happens when your entire team is built around the 1 and Done philosophy but there arent any Zion's or AD's in the class.

This happens. I remember when Dejuan Blair was a Sr and when Dante Taylor was a Sr. Blair's class was loaded. Stacked. Michael Beasley, K Love, Derrick Rose, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin, Johnny Flynn, Donta Green, James Harden, etc...etc... And Blair was ranked (at least on this site) outside of the top 50. Meanwhile, you go back to Taylor's class, John Wall, Avery Bradley, DeMarcus Cousins, but it wasn't loaded with guys.
