Dunlap tweet calls out Jason Capel

Like him or not, it’s good to see a PGH personality (one from Pitt’s flagship partner) put out a tweet like this.

I don't buy that narrative. A strong HC and 2 good assistants are more than enough. Even if Jason did absolutely nothing, that shouldn't have a big effect on the team.

Well except for the fact that he is one of the representatives of your program when recruiting and operating day to day. We’ve all been in work situations where you have a good team, but one person creating negativity disrupts everything (and I am in no way saying this is a good staff without him)

While I agree with your general thought, allow me to add two things. It's possible that what he does is not just nothing, but things that are detrimental. I'll also add that I've heard similar things to what Dunlap is alluding to from more than one person whose opinion I trust.

I've heard several weeks back about assistants but chiming in since Dunlap's tweet.

What have you heard that Jason has done to disrupt the program?

I don't believe any of that. People just generally have problems with nepotism hires. People hated Kevin Willard because they felt he was only playing because of his dad.

You know over the years I have read thousands of posts from you and I have come to the conclusion that you don't seem to believe anyone on here or anyone else's comments except your own. It's fascinating actually. You know it all and everyone else doesn’t. That sums up SMF in a nutshell.

Agreed SMF these guys are pissing in the wind . Act like they have inside information trashing PGT guy for bouncing Jamie when he had zero to do with it.

Sorry if I don't believe the lowest ranking assistant is ruining the program. If he showed up for work everyday and told every player he sucks everyday and goes and plays on the phone during practice, I don't think that costs us 1 win.

An ahole in any kind group can cause big problems. Culture and kids leaving have been discussed many times here so it’s not always all about wins and losses.

I probably would agree about costing wins though. This team’s bad enough that their record is about what it should have been.

That's your prerogative and it's certainly an understandable take. Rumors are rumors.

This much I will say, if Jason Capel is presenting any kind of a problem, it's up to the Boss to deal with and that's on the Boss, period. And more importantly, even if Jason is causing a problem, it's likely far down on the list of issues holding back our success.

Two things. First, speaking only for myself, I am not saying that he had anything at all "directly" with DIxon leaving. Beyond that, just know that we all have our sources.

He is disruptive on the bench and It’s apparent he’s not helping sell recruits either

But I think @Sean Miller Fan is correct in suggesting denouncing the idea that we should be looking at Jason Capel as anywhere near one of our biggest problems
Its just so lazy. Our problem is we don't have enough good players. If you want to say Jason is part of the reason for that due to poor recruiting, ok, but I would counter that and say we didn't hire Jeff for his X and O prowess. We hired him to recruit at a high level....not a Duke level but at a high ACC level. If he cant recruit and we have to rely on his kid brother or journeyman assistants, it means you made the wrong choice as HC.

Jason is Jeff’s problem so long as he’s out coach
I’ve been consistent for a long time -
Admin’s shouldn’t micromanage a staff barring an exception for a scandal

Jeff having a staff that isn’t coaching great schemes , recruiting talent , or improving his players is a Jeff Capel problem to solve
Until we make a change at head coach

that being said I stick by my opinion about his public behavior being at the root of plenty of our problems with recruiting and retention - he acts like an asshole.

unlike Jeff who is very professional in demeanor

It seems that we agree then.

I’m looking for the disconnect from when a recruit says “wow, coach Capel came to see me!” - to - so and so signs elsewhere. Capel still carries swag (still a word?) with kids initially. But it ends somewhere. Football recruits from Fla and Georgia marvel at the city - and then sign! Oakland ain’t the reason! Partridge brings players from the ACC deep footprint to this city. Think we kinda know now.

What is the public behavior? Is he cursing at waitresses at restaurants?

Do you watch games
Yells at refs , yells at opposing players , has no value during timeouts other then chest bumping and destracting

I never noticed him yelling at other players or refs. I did notice that he wore gloves last year. Didn't know what that was about

That’s because he’s paranoid about COVID and didn’t want to touch anything with his bare hands. Seriously. He’s a wack job!
