Dunn injury status?

Dunn is back on the bench. Hand is wrapped. And he is jumping on 1 foot. So its probably not that serious but serious enough to miss some time.

Sprained ankle and dislocated thumb ?

Thats what has been reported. The thumb is probably looking at 4 weeks to 6 weeks. The ankle is probably also a month. I rolled my ankle really bad almost 2 months ago and couldn't walk on it. Im coming up on month 2 and I still cant run. Mine was probably at least grade 2 as I could barely and I mean barely just stand up the first few days. And Im in shape. Dunn was able to stand on both feet, so thats a positive, his is way less of a sprain than mine.

We just can't have nice things. ☹️

We will get Dunn back this season. So thats a big positive after first watching him go down.

The 2nd big positive is Delalic. He now gets more time. Might or might not hurt the next 2 games, but win the rest up until January and it should pay dividends having both of them. Delalic needs the experience. He now will get it.

I had a bad sprain running and ran a triathlon the next day, slower than usual 5K

of course another run stepped on a golf ball sized stone and rolled it, finished the last 3 miles and later that day found out it broke my 5th metatarsal
should've stopped as got casted for 8 weeks and booted for another 6

need to know the degrees of sprains to know timelines with Dunn

I had a bad sprain once. Whole leg was black and blue. Doc said it was worse than a break. Was on crutches for 2-3 weeks. I remember back then thinking that I would have been out about 4 weeks if I were still playing.

When Fields hurt himself tripping over a cheerleader
That was a nightmare game- it’s still amazing to me how close camera people , cheerleaders and fans are to the baseline in so many college venues - it’s just dangerous- those stupid rolling chairs for the camera men on the baseline are an injury waiting to happen

Losing Dunn is going to hurt in the short term, but may help longer term. Delalic and Cummings weren't going to get better sitting on the bench, and Capel seemed hesitant to play either much against the better competition.

Both these guys need to play in order to get accustomed to the speed and athleticism of major college basketball. They'll need the depth as the season wears on.

FWIW, we win that game last night if Dunn doesn't get hurt. No way we give up that lead and let Tonje go off if he's on the court.

It only hurts if we stack losses. Lets estimate 6 weeks return time for Dunn and he comes back for Duke in January.

We need to beat Stanford, Cal, Sam Houston State, Eastern Kentucky. We should be 10 plus point favorites in all of those at home. We have to win these games.

We need to beat Virginia Tech who sucks.

We hope to beat at least 1 of Mississippi State and Ohio State. And Ohio State is going to play us without 2 of their rotation bigs with Stewart having I think concussion issues and Bradshaw not even practicing right now because of legal issues. Bradshaw is their starting center. So Pitt vs Ohio State is going to be another test of who's guards are better.

OK, can i try and put a silver lining on this? First off, yeah it sucks bad BUT lets say it's 4-5 weeks, hes back at the beginning of year, for the bulk of the ACC schedule AND we get the bosnian bomber more minutes and up to speed as well as Cummings getting more minutes too which should benefit us greatly when Dunn comes back..

That's my effort to try and spin this positively. But with that said, one more injury to a guard and things could get ugly quick.

It already hurt last night, and it's going to hurt again while he's out. He's one of the three best players on the team, and easily the best on ball defender. They had no answer for Tonje who abused Leggett and Austin.

I want Delalic and Cumming to play more because we're going to need them, but they're significant downgrades especially on defense.

well yes, it hurts, it sucks, no argument there. Hes really good. but the timing is a plus (i think). Better now than in january.

Most of those points he scored were against Austin in the 2nd half as Leggett was in foul trouble and not even guarding him. Granted, he scored on 4 different Pitt players yesterday including Guillermo. You can rewatch the full highlight tape or game on youtube.

The thing that crippled Pitt more than anything, we gave up 9 offensive rebounds yesterday and we gave up 11 2nd chance points yesterday. We scored a total of 4 second chance points. You give an Elite offensive team like Wisconsin chance after chance at some point they will burn you. And as Ive said multiple times, Dunn stinks on the glass. He is Fede level bad on the boards and one of the reasons his PT went down at Houston.

The team defensive effort was poor overall in the 2nd half either because of tired legs or just poor intensity, Wisconsin wanted it more. Guys were not getting back in transition defense and Lowe had trouble with dribble penetration all game long and we were getting killed with dumps, kickouts, etc.. You can also blame Guillermo because he continues to be too slow closing out on 3 point shooters as he is more concerned with protecting the interior. He and our team have been burnt by this almost every game.

Next game out, lets make it a huge point of emphasis to not let the opposing team have twice as many offensive rebounds as us. And maybe if we also rebounded better, we would have scored more than a paltry 6 points in transition, which also stinks.

By the way, here is our 2nd half numbers against Wisconsin.

Wisconsin outrebounded Pitt by 8 in the 2nd half, and they are not even a good rebounding team. This is the biggest downfall of why we lost.

Wisconsin won the turnover margin by 1 in the 2nd half.

Wisconsin shot the ball at 60% from the field in the 2nd half and 50% from 3 in the 2nd half.

Wisconsin outscored Pitt 11-2 in the 2nd half with 2nd chance points

Wisconsin outscored Pitt by 3 points in fastbreak points in the 2nd half

Pitt was 2-13 shooting the 3 ball in the 2nd half

And the icing on the cake, Jaland Lowe finished the whole game -9, team worst. Jorge played a total of 5 minutes and was -6, 2nd worst on the team. At what point do we try someone else besides Jorge who has been in the negative literally every game except VMI.

And the final interesting stat. Guillermo finished this game at a +5. And Guillermo was the only Pitt player in the positive in this game.

As for the bench, Delalic was a -3.

Pitt had a 12 point lead in the first half.

We brought Jorge and Cummings into the game at the same time, 2 of the worst rebounders and defenders on our team

Play 1. Tonje destroys Jorge off the dribble for a gift 2 points.

Play 3 Blackwell beats Lowe off the bounce with ease, gets a free layup as Jorge was to slow and too weak to protect the interior as he falls to the ground on contact, another gift 2 points

Play 5 Backdoor cut to Mcghee, another gift 2 points as Cummings slipped and they got a wide open layup again. Now Cummings is a weak defender, but guys were consistently slipping on this floor in all the games I watched.

Next score, Cummings went for the steal on a broken down defensive play. Free layup, again with no help in the interior.

The lead was cut to 7 at that point. 4 layups given up with horrible, horrible inside defensive protection and Guillermo watching on the sidelines.

We are going to be forced into the bench with Dunn out. But bringing in Jorge and Cummings and playing them at the same time is dumb. If 1 of them plays, you need to cover up the defensive and rebounding weakness with better defensive and rebounding players when 1 of them is on the floor. We should never be playing both of them at the same time.

A 5 point gift to Wisconsin in the first half because of our head coach misusing our bench and going too deep into the bench. I thought we learned that lesson previously with bringing in multiple bench players at once and allowing the opposing team to go on a big scoring run.
