Big win for Duquesne over Dayton in their opening of the new arena. Just wondering though, what's the actual rule on fans because Duquesne had 50 students there. Not that that matters much but we've had plenty of games (during break) pre-Covid with fewer than 50 students so it would be nice to get a few dozen students (or regular fans) in there.

No idea. But their new place is pretty sweet. Amazing what they were able to do around the bones of the old gym for 45 mil.

We’re probably around that number with “invited guests “ of the university and parents / family of players

From what I know they’re way over 110. VT gets a ticket allotment of around 75 by themselves. 2 for each player and coach then donors. I’d say around 350-400

Looks like a new great place for concerts. Oh. I miss concerts

new place for them looks awesome

Yeah it's a pretty fantastic A10 arena. Nice to have all of these two basketball arenas in the area with RMU and Duquesne. Even some of the local high schools (Montour, Peters) have built arenas that rival those at small D1 colleges.

Montour's and Bethel's are the nicest I think. The new PT one looks nice from pictures but it lacks the corner "wrap around" seating that makes Montour and BP look like low-major D1 arenas.

The original Palumbo Center was a cozy place to watch a game. It reminded me of St. John's campus gym. I sweated out one Pitt victory there. Trouble is, their program hasn't given their students or alums much to cheer about for 40 years. Pitt wrested away whatever interest the local fan base had in college hoops back in the day.

I wonder if Damrot will actually elevate the Dukes to the top echelon of the A10. The facility will help, but they still struggle against the middling teams. (Sounds quite like Pitt football.) Also, they generate zero buzz. I know one guy from church who has held four DU season tickets for years. He is about the only person I know who cares about the Dukes.

That said, Duquesne and Pitt should play annually at the Paint Can, and Pitt should dominate the series. If the Dukes surpass Pitt for an extended period of years, either Damrot is the Bluff version of Ben Howland, or Pitt will be in a world of hurt.

Not necessarily an expert on COVID attendance rules.

Well you claim to be an expert on Pitt basketball and Pitt has been allowing family members for weeks now. Heck, if you watch the games they've actually shown players parents sitting in the stands in several of the games.

I knew the parents were allowed. Didnt know 110 or 300 or whatever the actual number is. I don't claim to be an expert on Covid attendance.

Duquesne's biggest problem (and ours to a lesser extent since we can recruit nationally with the ACC) is their backyard should be a literal pipeline of talent to the program and it has produced 3 players in over 30 years that could play at that level (Blair, Kennedy, Kane, ironically all on the same team). It's actually kind of amazing that I think the city league has produced more D1 football than basketball talent recently.

St. Bonaventure has been better than them for the last 20 years, on average and I would doubt Olean has ever produced a D1 player. Not an excuse for Duquesne. It takes a coach. Thats it.

No excuse none to not schedule Duquesne every year that game should not be negotiable eff HCJC if he doesn’t like it
I've mentioned this before; there should be an annual tip-off or Christmas tournament that has Pitt, Penn State, WVU, and Duquesne. Alternate sites each year. Because of attendance restrictions the Dukes would play at PPG arena. Pitt would have the option to play at the Pete or at PPG.

Not a tournament but there should absolutely be an annual doubleheader at PPG.

Game 1: Duquesne vs RMU
Game 2: Pitt vs WVU

Allotment of 2K student tickets (behind baskets). Duq and RMU students have to leave the arena after their game. Pitt gets 6500 tickets behind and closest to their bench. WVU gets 6500 tickets behind and closest tk their bench. Duquesne gets 1500 behind their bench. RMU gets 1500 behind their bench.
