Duzz on MacVittie

It would be nice to have a stud type. And as much as I'd like to have another Dan Marino the defense has to improve markedly. And yes - I know - thanks mr obvious.
We just need a really good college QB to take our program up a notch. A guy like Pat White for example. He does not necessarily have to be a good pro.

Narduzzi isn't permitted by NCAA rules to publicly talk about prospective players until they start attending class.
I think that you are mistaken. The coaches are able to talk about any prospective player as long as they have signed their LOI. Why do you think the coaches host a gathering for fans regarding their incoming recruits?

I agree. Gonna be really tough to go on the road early to State College with a rs freshman. He'd have to be worlds better than max Browne in camp. I think Browne is the starter, but there will be no hesitation to pull him before ACC play starts if he is unimpressive.

Explain how he talks about players in February after they sign the LOI?

I went to the LOI event last year where Narduzzi talked about each of them extensively. 6 months before they set foot in a single class.

Exactly. The second they sign a LOI, the coach can talk about them

We are in a MUCH better situation in QB next year than this. TMAC was kinda stuck in redshirt zone... so all we had was DiNucci to go to. He seemed, and rightfully so, super rusty and questionable arm strength. Definitely more Trey Andersenish than Voytik

Disagree...replacing two NFL Draft picks on the oline will determine that.
JJS was a starter at one point and has NFL potential and we have some other good potential OL that can play. The OL might not be as good as this year, but a really good college QB makes a decent OL look good and a good OL look great.

I don't believe Max Browne (or any other transfer) signs an LOI. They sign grant-in-aid paperwork which binds the school to the player, but not the other way around. Despite signing the paperwork Max Browne could change his mind today and there is nothing Pitt could do. That changes once he actually attends classes, he is then bound to Pitt and would need a release to leave. High school and Juco players who sign LOI's are bound to the school the second they are signed thus the coach and discuss the player at will. I may be wrong, but that's what i think Vegas is saying.

I admittedly don't have the patience to decipher all of the confusing NCAA grad transfer and LOI rules, but my understanding was that graduate transfers don't sign a traditional LOI, as that process and timeline is reserved for incoming freshman and JC transfers. No idea when the coach is 'allowed' to speak of them to the media.

If you say so..
I read that somewhere too. Our QB situation is really going to be a plus. Brown, TMac and now Dinucci will have a legit competition which will make all 3 better. Ideally I wouldn't mind seeing Browne win out and see TMac get major reps too. And once in a while guys like Dinucci refuse to go away and end up contibuting in the long run.

They can talk about high school recruits as soon as they sign their LOI. Transfer are different. They don't sign LOIs and coaches can't talk about them till they start classes.

QB play will determine how far this program progresses.
If we continue to give up 500 YPG and over 30 PPG, it won't matter who the QB is. Hopefully the next group of starters will start to fix that small problem.

If there was a lesser group of starting LBs and DBs in all of D1 football I haven't seen them. That's the Chryst legacy just as much as our strong OL and RB situation.

Not sure why everyone is always so fascinated by transfer QB's? Any way, for a change I would love to see one of our recruited QB's step up and win the job. Whether it is DiNucci or MacVettie, I really do not care one way or the other. It would be far better for the program to have a QB that holds the job for a couple of years, not to mention to demonstrate to recruits that they actually have a chance to be the starter. So I am cheering hard for either Tom or Ben to win the job in the Spring--and decisively so. Hail to Pitt!

I think in this case it's because Browne was the bluest of blue chippers. USC was a mess for most of his time there, so folks are hoping that he might live up to his pedigree once he gets here. Who wouldn't want a 5 star qb who actually performs like one?

i don't think you'll find too many pitt fans that would disagree with McVittie winning the competition not being the best thing.. With that said, we are bringing in a talented QB who will either be our starter or a good backup.. A no--lose situation.

as far as competitions go, you should always root for the younger guy to win it..

A great QB is more valuable than any other position - by far.

Two opinions:
1) The starter at QB will absolutely be as the end result of a real competition. Anyone who thinks that Narduzzi would make promises or guarantees to a QB, or any player, really knows nothing about Narduzzi. In fact, any coach getting caught making guarantees of playing time to one over another guy whose been recruited would have an absolutely devastating impact on future recruiting. A really stupid move. Narduzzi isn't stupid.

2) There is reason of course to root for the younger guy, as he will gain experience for the future. But then, if the young guy wins, you have a young, inexperienced guy as your starting QB, instead of a wiser, experienced guy at QB, which is less than ideal of course.. So, I'll always just root for both to look really good, and may the best man win.

You play the best player. You hope the best player is the younger guy. You account for experience and talent.
