Pitt's Price Is Right! Think he will win as many Post Season Awards as Aaron Donald? Nice read on how Smart Recruits choose Pitt and never give up on Pitt, and Pitt never gives up on them.

Pitt's Ejuan Price has persevered -- and opponents now are paying

There’s a saying the coaches repeat often at Pitt that has stuck with defensive end Ejuan Price: “Be where your feet are.” The idea, Price said, is to live in the moment -- carpe diem for the football world. It’s one of those things coaches say to anchor players in the hard work that often requires a bit of extra motivation, but for Price, it’s become something of a mantra for his life.
“A lot of things happened in the past,” he said, “and my future is looking a little different than it used to.” That past was almost overwhelming -- two chest injuries and a back problem that cost him all but six games from 2012 through 2014. The rehab and setbacks and optimism squashed by yet another injury had him wondering if he’d ever set foot on a field again. Now, two seasons removed from that last injury, the future seems unimaginably bright. Price leads the nation in sacks (8.5) and tackles for loss (12.5) and is drawing attention from NFL scouts. That’s kind of crazy for him to even consider. So instead, Price is focused on the moment. Right here, right now, with the people who’ve carried him this far. “Right now,” Price said, “I’m a Pitt Panther, and we’ve got Virginia on the clock.” It’s actually a nice feeling for Price. The goals are small -- work hard, be a leader, get ready for the next game. On Saturdays, he hunts the quarterback. Then he starts again. There’s routine -- after three years of the unknown. Price was one of the top middle linebacker prospects in the country coming out of high school, and he committed to Pitt to be close to his Rankin, Pennsylvania, home. As a true freshman, he played in all 13 games with five starts, and his future seemed bright. Then came the injuries.................
...........Price’s teammates worked to keep him involved, and his family provided a solid foundation as he rehabbed. His mother, Michelle, lives just a few minutes from Pitt’s campus, and Price made regular visits. They’d chat about football occasionally, but mostly Michelle just offered a shoulder to lean on and a reminder that, no matter what came next, he’d be OK......................Price found another fan in head coach Pat Narduzzi, who took over the program in 2015. Price had hardly sniffed the field, so it wasn’t as if Narduzzi saw much on tape to offer hope, but the longtime defensive coordinator at Michigan State instantly recognized he had a special talent and was just waiting for a chance to prove himself.
“I was a no-name guy with one more year left,” Price said of his early work with Narduzzi. “He hammered it into me that I would be healthy and make a lot of plays.” The first part was obvious early in 2015, but the latter prediction took a bit more time. Truth is, after three straight seasons of setbacks, Price was reluctant to push too hard. What would happen if he got hurt again? How many more chances would he have? Narduzzi had the answer: Be where your feet are.......................Price is a hot commodity now. In the past calendar year, he’s racked up 16.5 sacks -- three more than any other player in the country. He’s two sacks ahead of Florida State’s DeMarcus Walker for the ACC lead, and that’s a harbinger for good things to come. Since 2004, every ACC sack leader has been selected in the first three rounds of the NFL draft...................

Smart Recruits Choose Pitt Is It!

Thanks for posting!

I can honestly say that I am not surprised.

I had quite a lot of people responding to me that I was going too far when I predicted in a post (before last season started) that Price would come back from injury and be so good that he would be selected first team All-ACC by the end of that year... And he did. I also predicted he would eventually be one of the best defensive players in the country and end up being one of the country's sack leaders... which he now is.

I've just been a huge fan of Price since his first game in a Panther uniform. I could see the potential greatness just oozing from him. He has now grown into a complete beast, but he's always had that quick first step and knack for finding the best path to the QB.

Works hard every play.
He gets held almost every play.

Outstanding post.
Was talking about Price in the stands last week and the seasons he's having.
So much fun to watch a talented competitor.
As disappointed as some Pitts fans are with the last several years we've had the privilege to see some great great players.

It would be a real coup if Pitt's Price Is Right wins ACC Defensive Player of the Year,
Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, Lombardi Award, Outland Trophy, Unanimous All-American, First-Team All-ACC Awards just like Aaron Donald!

Pitt just keeps coming up with Outstanding Players. If Hendrix did not get hurt or comes back, could be even better for this and next year.

I recall your prediction because you don't post that often but when you do it is significant in content and insights.

Pitt is so blessed to have so many Players having a No Quit Attitude in Playing CFB & in LIFE and right from Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania.

Everyone was concern with James Conner last and this year, and what bravery known nationwide. Yet, Ejuan Price struggled with his Health and never gave up and salutes his Family, Teammates, and Coaches!

We all have the Pitt FAB Five now on the Sidelines and on Scholarship that had to in to miss the season Mike Grimm (Hip), Chris Clark (Knee), Zach Gilbert (Heart), and Justin Moody and George Hill had to end their Careers but still stand with the Teammates and they by them.

Pitt Alumni & Fans have to be proud of Pitt and all those that choose it!

While it seems hard imagine anyone again winning all those awards, if Price continues to plays the second half of the season as well as the first, it would be harder to justify not giving them all to him.

If Hendrix did not get hurt, one has to think Pitt would still be undefeated. While the ability of some of Pitt's DBs to cover and break up passes is beyond deplorable, it's very possible OSU and NC's QBs may never have had time too throw some of their long pass plays with both Price and Hendrix breathing down their necks.

Agree, and the way ESPN put out that Article and the ACC is doing well with Clemson, ULou, UNC, Miami, FSU it could be another Big Year like it was during Pitt's Donald's Year. Just wish James Conner could be in play for the Heisman, but Pitt has so many weapons they spread it all around.

Agree, what Price is doing i really quite remarkable when seeing it without Hendrix.

I think otherwise a tad, I have seen many catches with Pitt Defenders right with and on top of each WRs and still those WRs barely came down with the ball. Just damn good Pass Catching at split seconds misses and inches off the mark within mini-second? Especially UNC, Marshall & GT Games?

On the other hand each game also had wide open flat out WRs without anywhere near them at least 1, 2 & 3 times game in all the Games? Plus, not many Interceptions, this is where you are point on, if the pressure was there the QB mistakes would be there follow.

Yep, and if rushed maybe a tip or interception or QB Fumble result too or sack? It would have been the Green-Jackson Bookends all over again?

Price+Hendrix = Pitt Matrix!
