Well, it looks like I'll have one of the FF teams I picked advance. Would never outright root for UConn but I did have them going to Houston. Gonzaga looks awful

Definitely didn't. I'm not sure how you beat them right now. They don't have great pg play either. They have everything else though
Next game should be a bigger challenge.
Texas & Purdue roughed up Gonzaga a lot too earlier this year. I don't think the Zags were really contenders this year.

Not only could we have played toe to toe with UCONN in 2011, but we should have beaten Butler. That might have been the worst of the worst Dixon era NCAA tournament losses. I loved Nasir Robinson's hustle game but that foul was a killer.
I think 2011 might have provided our best path, but I don't know if I would have it in my top four Pitt teams of that era.
That's good, makes it more interesting, I like that the top seeds and blue bloods are OUT! I'm WAY MORE interested to watch now. If it was Duke, UNC, Kentucky and Kansas I probably wouldn't want to watch at all.
Hard to believe that either San Diego State, Creighton, or Florida Atlantic is gonna be in the National Championship game in a week and have a chance to win it all. Truly 3 borderline mid Major teams even though Creighton plays in the Big East. Goes to show you now that anything is possible once you get into this tournament.
But they also play with a pace. MS ST and IA ST were very good defensively but had no transition speed/offense to speak of. UConn does for sure, as well as FAU to a slightly lesser degree
You have some wildly awful takes. Yeah they got beat by those teams but also beat Kentucky, msu, Alabama, and Xavier not to mention UCLA in the sweet 16.
They were a very good team who had a bad night.
They are a very flawed team that had no shot at winning the tourney. This is their worst team in several years.

For as physical as the game was that was a cheap call at the end of the Creighton game. For sure it was a foul but man what a rough call

Lastly on the flagrant. How can you go back after the play and review the call. The ref looked right at it and didn’t call it until after the play and the SDST player complained. I guess it’s because flagrants are reviewable. Not sure why that’s the case and not all calls.
At any rate Great game and a tough way to lose. Creighton missed way to many short shots especially the big dude

Bet the city is super proud! It was a shame their 30-2 team didn't get a shot in 2020 due to COVID. Glad they're in the FF now. Such a consistent program over the past decade plus.
What was so impressive about both those teams is how focused they were. Saw very little celebrating after a made bucket. Both teams just focused on defense immediately after a score. One of the few games that I didn't want to see either team lose.

they missed waaaaaaaay too many open 3s. Good shooting team that typically makes 9 3s a game just shot like 2-17. Just one more make and they win. Again, when you have an off shooting night in March, you’re going home.

Not that it means anything but Jay Wright disagreed with you big time. For the same reason cited by many herein, they weren’t calling that kind of foul all game. As Jay said, it is usually informally established between coaches and refs early on how the game is going to be called and from then on all you’re looking for is consistency.
An airborne shooter who is dislodged in the act of shooting is a foul. There was a direct impact on him shooting an open jumper. We aren’t talking about physical play near the basket.

I always love it when someone watches a player play one game and asks “why does anybody think this guy is any good” when that player isn’t having his best game.
What do you think people who aren’t familiar with Pitt basketball thought of Burton if all they saw of him was Pitt’s tournament games?
No one is arguing that. The argument is they didn’t call that type of foul fall game long. Both can be true
