Espn3

Missed a play completely, down and distance is usually wrong. Not to mention the commentary. Yikes. I am glad the game is at least being covered.

Terrible production. They have twice misidentified Terry Bowden by showing an assistant coach instead of him. Replays always cut into the next play. Down and distance issues all half. The list goes on and on.

Yes, and I'm not sure how one can misidentify Terry Bowden? I think they did the same with Narduzzi as well.

They also kept focusing on Rob Harley and misidentifying him as Josh Conklin. Pretty remarkable ineptitude.

At half they called our QB Chad Peterman

they did it twice, it was pretty funny. first time on peterman's 18 yard scamper so maybe that was deliberate since chad is supposed to be running QB and the second time at the half which made me think maybe the first time wasn't deliberate.

Guys....maybe you're not old enough to remember but it wasn't all that long ago when there were maybe 1 or 2 Pitt games at the very most on TV a year - the rest, only on radio.

I was thinking about this technology last night while watching this game:

I bring up the game on the wife's iPad via the WatchESPN app.
Login w/ my DirecTv username and password - (Satellite TV is a whole other story).
Throw the signal over to the little Chromecast thing inserted into the back of my 60" HD TV via wi-fi and....

Viola, I watch the game whereas otherwise, I'd have to listen to internet radio here in North Carolina - another technological feat.

Be thankful at what we have.

That being said...did those ESPN 3 announcers actually get paid?

If so, highway robbery.

It's 2015 and technology has made it rather easy to effectively broadcast any game. This came down to poor effort and little interest by ESPN in doing it's job.

This would be like Pitt having a radio guy today that didn't know down and distance, misidentified players, and couldn't determine the spot of the bal..

Yeah it is nothing like being on a TV station but consider what are options would be otherwise.

Also how much did you pay to watch the game? They didn't charge me anything so I got what I paid for

I didn't expect a pair of Pantherlair homers in the booth, but those 2 guys in the booth acted like they knew absolutely nothing about U of Pitt, this particular Pitt roster, nor Narduzzi. Coupled with the inadequate stadium lighting, the dark weather conditions, the soccer game wide angle camera views, the asleep at the switch director in the truck (missed several plays), and the completely unreliable down and distance graphics, and this was easily the worst TV football production I've ever seen. But still better than only radio!

It could have been worse, did you guys catch the dip stick woman pretending to be a play by play for the Penn State game, sounds like she is reading from hand written notes all the time, after I got the score, which did not take long, could not stand anymore of that waste of air time. However , for the university of puke, she fit right in.

I'm actually in NC, at OBX, right now and tried to do almost the same thing. Worked fine on the tablet but when I tried my Roku on the big screen, it never opened up any broadcasts on ESPN3, even though it said it was connected. It works fine at home.

Maybe not enough bandwidth here? Any techie advice welcomed!

Still, you are 100% correct. Having the technology to watch the gsme, even on a tablet, is great. Given the conditions at the stadium last night, watching on a tablet from an easy chair was infinitely more comfortable thsn sitting in a downpour.

After hearing the Panthers were still rebounding after Anderson(??) left to coach Arizona St I knew the inevitable would happen and it did at 4:34 in the 4th....Pitt running back "Daryll Hall with 4 on the carry"....its a bitch girl!

My personal favorite was the fact we were able to recruit Tyler Boyd from Clarion right in the heart of nitter country. Sounds like a coaching coup to me...

Well, I watched the game w/o sound.....had the Bucs on the TV. Glad I did....had no tech difficulties, just don't need to listen to idiots. They sure had trouble with correct info on the little down & distance graphic. The lighting in that little joint sure couldn't overcome the rain.

We need to win more games and play better teams. That broadcast was an abomination last night. ESPN3 has been really good sometimes and really bad sometimes, at both football and basketball. But last night, was the worst I've ever seen by far. It looked like I was watching a 50's high school game on the kitchen tv and had turn the antenna to just the perfect angle. Next week should be another fun one too. At Iowa on BTN. Would not be surprised if the mentioning of Iowa's jerseys mimicking Steelers being the announcers only mention of Pittsburgh. I know it's the Big Ten Network and PSU/Rutgers is a conference game but do you need to be that loyal to the conference to make that the main game. Pitt/Iowa might be one of the best matchups between unranked teams this year, PSU/Rutgers will be well.... PSU/Rutgers, it will probably look more like the football that was played at Rutgers in 1869.

Regardless, ESPN should be ashamed of that train wreck production last night. The camera guys sucked, the production team sucked. The play by play and color were awful. Coughing in the mic, cant learn the name of the qb for a P5 school is unacceptable. Weather or not, I expect at least some semblance of a professional broadcast.

for three years i have said espn3 is a joke andn this board said I was full of crap. having your games on espn3 is a slap in the face a joke. you are a P5 team and your fan base needs an HDMI cable to watch a game, that's unnaceptable no matter the opponent
