Today's Penn State football news has plenty of coaching updates, including a look back at former defensive coordinator Bob Shoop's move to Tennessee and Herb Hand's defection to Auburn.

Shoop took the same position at Tennessee and did so by paying his own buyout, which was pegged at around $800,000, according to FootballScoop. UT athletic director Dave Hart told GoVols247 that Shoop's willingness to pay his own way was a "very, very loud statement" about how badly he wanted to be at Tennessee.

"I'm sure they'll talk about that a little bit [Tuesday] when Butch and Bob have their press conference, but in short, it's a very, very loud statement about how bad Bob wanted to be a part of what is going on here in our football program," Hart told GoVols247.

Hand was the second Penn State assistant to make a "lateral" move to take the same position at an SEC school, ESPN's Josh Moyer wrote. He was announced as the next offensive line coach at Auburn Monday and was quick to change the branding of his social media presence.......Go To Link!

Now a Franklin Recruit that was a Starter leaves Penn State to play at Delaware????

ARTICLE & LINK:

Penn State rising redshirt sophomore linebacker Troy Reeder will transfer, sources have informed Lions247. The Wilmington (Del.) Salesianum grad will transfer to Delaware and is eligible to play immediately. Reeder’s father, Dan, played for the Blue Hens and his younger brother Colby Reeder committed to the program last week.

Reeder started 11 games for Penn State as a redshirt freshman, taking over for Jason Cabinda at the Will position when Cabinda moved inside to replace an injured Nyeem Wartman-White in the season opener. Reeder finished fourth on the team in tackles with 67 this season, including a team-high 11 in a win over Maryland. He had 5.5 tackles for loss on the year and had an interception against Illinois.

The 6-foot-1, 241-pound Reeder was selected to ESPN.com’s All-Rookie Team in the Big Ten in December and earned Academic All-District honors in the fall.

Penn State returns Cabinda, Wartman-White and Brandon Bell as expected starters at linebacker next season.

SAVE JIMMY FRANKS!!!! Look, he's done more to restore the balance of power between PsU and PITT than any other thing (due respect to HCPN but he's only been here a year). We need to keep Jimmy Franks at PsU as long as humanly possible. So praise him loudly and often. Go to the BWU board (or whatever it's called) and say how much PITT fears him). Letters to Mike Blue and White. E- mails to Rossi & Poni. Maybe we even get a "go fund me" thing going. Save Jimmy Franks. Save Jimmy Franks. Save Jimmy Franks..........

Doesn't matter if shoop is paying his own buyout or not the perception is that he is doing it.
That is all that matters to further desercrate the cult.

He paid his buyout... Says it all... Plus psu's d has been the only thing remotely acceptable... That also says a lot...

Per the Butch Jones presser going on now, Shoop was hard to pry away from PSU but it was "his affinity for the state of Tennessee" that was the deciding factor.

Also interesting that Butch Jones, Shoop, and Franklin all have the same agent.

Sure it was

sounds to me that he wanted out of penn state more then he wanted to be at Tennessee or anywhere else, when you pay your own buyout you want out of there in a hurry, it probably didn't matter where he went

Which brings us back to Herb Hand....who left a dumpster fire to go to Auburn, where Malzahns seat is at least a little warm.......

Yea...i get the money....but the Auburn gig may not be there in a year or two. I think on some level....it speaks of the desperation a guy like Hand sensed by staying at PSU

Franklin talks about his Plan with his long time loyal staff on one week, no lateral moves the other week, brags about his staffers being in demand another week uses it to attract recruits, and now dead silence this week? Does not compute!

Shoop isn't paying his own buyout. I just listened to his introductory press conference at Tennessee and he was specifically asked about it. He also heaped lots of praise on Franklin. He stated that he was glad to be where he had championship talent and not in a rebuild. He said his family absolutely loved Nashville while he was at Vandy & his older son graduated from Father Ryan and he wanted to get his younger son enrolled... The rest pretty much coach speak.

I'd say pretty much all of it was coach speak ... nice try Nitter.

Malzahn's seat isn't warm yet, but its the SEC & at AU specifically, things can change in a hurry. Hand and Malzahn have a prior relationship and it sounds like they work really well together.

1. Hard to Pry away Shoop but won't pay for his Buyout? I guess so!

2. Guess you are confirming Franklin's Agent may have put out Franklin's Name for the Miami Job after all, I agree that is interesting, I thought he protested too much at that time?

3. Franklin that loves to talk all of sudden has been silent?

1) Shoop isn't paying his own buyout.

2) Franklin's agent has been known to put his name out there a lot. This isn't something new. He did that at Vanderbilt too.

3) What is there to talk about? Franklin tends to lay low when something doesn't go his way and he talks a lot when it does.

Nice Try? What does that even mean? Did you listen to the press conference? Would you like a link?

I think listening to a presser from a former PSU coordinator would rank slightly below watching paint dry on the list of things I would like to do today. If you were listening to it, you are definitely a true blue & white nitwit and not just a Nashville expat with a weird man-crush on Franklin.

When Franklin come in, he thought he only had the Bucks, and in some years MSU to deal with. Then reality hit, and he figured out that not only was he not going to get back the 2 aforementioned schools, but that he had lost to a Hoke led Michigan team as well. Now that we have Harbaugh, that pretty much relegated PSU to 4th, in their own division, on a yearly basis.

IMO as long as at least one of the 3 coaches are there, he will never win the B1G eastern division. Meyer and Harbs are not just better coaches, and have better staffs, they out-recruit him as well. When it comes to Dant, he does more with little than pretty much any college coach I have ever seen. Even I look forward to that thorn being gone, and MSU going back to sleep for another 45 plus years.

Lol. I didn't intend to listen to a press conference. I streamed a talk radio show I used to listen to when I lived in Knoxville because I wanted to hear the the Bama envy and Kiffin hate from the orange clad sheep. It just so happened that they broke away to cover that live. (as you do if you have a sports radio show in a college town)

Spot on, and Franklin thought Penn State bigger recruiting revenue resources would overcome MSU's Dantonio recruiting, but MSU is now recruiting equal or near Franklin's Penn State Program but Dantonio has a better and more stable Coaching Staff! TD-^042 a Good Posters still thinks Farnklin just needs more time, and I once agreed, but beating Michigan's Harbaugh and Ohio State's Meyer is a challenge for ANY Coach anytime now! Throw in MSU's Dantonio, Iowa's Ferentz, Pitt's Narduzzi and now ash's Rutgers and Durkin's Maryland, if Franklin can do it, he will be leaving Penn State sooner too! Either way, we shall see???

IMO as long as at least one of the 3 coaches are there, he will never win the B1G eastern division. Meyer and Harbs are not just better coaches, and have better staffs, they out-recruit him as well. Spot on again! Now add Ferentz next 2 years, Narduzzi next 4, and Wiksy/Nebraska/Northwestren after 2016, the only way to unite Penn State is to dump Franklin and pull a Michigan.......Hire PSU Hall of Famer, Steeler OL Coach Mike Munchak or another Penn State Alumnus Coach like Ruhle, Engram, or bring back Shoop after allFranklin has lost his "Hand", and needs new one?

"TD_6082, post: 739926, member: 510"] 1) Shoop isn't paying his own buyout.
Ok we got that, I went you on that two days now, even though no Media Reporters says otherwise? The problem is perception is reality now, everyone believes Auburn, Shoop and the Media, not you or me and Franklin is silent?

2) Franklin's agent has been known to put his name out there a lot. This isn't something new. He did that at Vanderbilt too.
Well, tell that to Franklin not me, Franklin sure denied it, and made sure everyone knew it, and you once again why Franklin may lack the character to be a Good Head coach in a Bigger Program than Vanderbilt? Show Boaters do this kind of Public Relations, not Great Elite Coaches, they know they good and do not need anyone to say it? Kind of undercut your own arguments that Franklin was a Great Coach at Vanderbilt if he needs his Agent to put his name out?

3) What is there to talk about? Franklin tends to lay low when something doesn't go his way and he talks a lot when it does.
Really????? Did you miss my links to PennLive???? Let me retort with specifics from those Links to Think?:

1. Just a Month Ago, Franklin held a Press Conference bragging about his Plan and Loyal Staff before MSU Game saying he and his staff needs more time, was that laying low????

2. Three Days Later, Franklin Fired his 3 Days earlier old long time loyal staffer OC Donovan and and that was not a low profile goodbye or greeting?

3. A week ago, Franklin was bragging how his Staffers are great to be in demand but only for a Head Coaching jobs only, "NOT ANY LATERAL MOVES," then two quit on Franklin for Lateral Moves? Is that laying low???

4. Now contrast that with Franklin with you admitting Franklin's Agent put his name out there??? Is that laying low???

5. As well as you saying, Franklin's Agent is the same as Butch Jones and Bob Shoop, and Franklin is laying low???? What kind of Sports Agent blindsides his Client like that and shouldn't Franklin at least wish him well and thank Shoop for his loyal years at Vandy & Penn State or should Franklin's Agent do it for him since all three are clients buddies?

6. Does Franklin's Agent decide to undercut Franklin while promoting Shoop and Jones or does Franklin's own Agent dislike him too? The Agent should be promoting all of them and not undercutting any of them?

Now contrast that to Harbaugh, Meyer, Dantonio and Narduzzi having wished their OC's and DC's well and good fortune with gratitude on what they did at Michigan, OSU, MSU, and Pitt last and this year! But this past two month Big Mouth Dominatrix stays Silent on his Plans & needs more time, and now is laying low instead of wishing his long time Staffers Goodspeed?

Don't you think if Franklin does this to his long Time Coaches, what is he going to do to his Recruits whatever Franklin is promising them, or will he lay even lower after signing day?

As I Stated for all this year, Franklin needs to do less emailing, media conferences, and talking and more coaching, especially since Franklin now has to break in 3 new ones now? Good to see he is taking such silent advice and laying low finally!!!

Nashville is home to Vanderbilt, do you think UTenn is giving some blow back on Franklin & Vandy too, over caring about publicizing Bama and Kiffen NCS Win during Recruiting Season last few weeks runs?

Please don't tell me you actually are one of those guys that believes things coaches say in press conferences? LOL... Hail to Pitt!

Nope. But its pretty easy to seperate what is true and what is coach speak.

For example, the statement by UT's AD about Shoop's buyout. If he expects people to believe that a school that pays over $1 mil a year to a women's basketball coach is going to balk at an $800k buyout for a top flight DC, he's out of his mind.

SHOOP UPDATE:

Tennessee Athletic Department officials have confirmed that Shoop has settled into his cot nicely at Knox Area Rescue Ministries. The first installment check of $50k that Shoop will pay the University for the opportunity to coach at Tennessee cleared earlier today. #VFL

The Deed is done, good to see you can keep all of us informed on Shoop Progress or regress at UTenn. We don't agree in total with all posts but glad you posted and gave you're honest opinions and insights!

Glad to hear that...as was making me question your credibility. Then of course you obviously do not believe all the gratuitous niceties that coaches say about their former employer and staffs as they exit the door either. Be sure, most of those comments are classic coach speak from any coach that "gets it" and has changed jobs. I will translate, "I wish _____ well," really means, "I hope that lousy @#*#@ ______ fails miserably after I leave." Hail to Pitt!
