Watch his USC and high school highlights. He looks like he has Peterman's decision making but with Savage's arm. There's a reason he was the #1 QB recruit in the nation.

At USC this past year, he completed over 62% of his passes despite 1 of his 3 starts coming against Alabama. Although he had as many interceptions as TD's, 1 of his interceptions hit his receiver in the hands who then popped it in the air for Alabama's D (1:30 in this video: ) and the 1 interception against Utah State wasn't exactly a terrible throw (0:46 in this video: ). Browne completed 76.7% of his passes against Utah State, whose opponents only averaged 57.8% on the season.

With 7 months of working with the new coaches, this guy will provide great competition at the QB position.

Not trying to be negative but, why hasn't he started more in 4 years at USC?
Was it bad luck or just that he wasn't good enough to beat out the other QB's ?

The first year he was redshirted.

The next two years he was behind NFL-er Cody Kessler.

This year, he had the unfortunate circumstance of having 2 of his first 3 games against Alabama and Stanford.

USC would've likely gone 9-3 if they stayed with him, but the HC needed a scapegoat so he switched QBs after the Stanford loss. The freshman played well and the rest is history.

Curious what you thought of Peterman coming from Tennessee with a similar history to Browne.

The kid is mature, is a leader, and is a has his head in the right place.

This is nothing but positive for Pitt.

And across the board USC fans have been showing the love for him, so they all liked the guy

Let's not pretend like he was screwed because he will play for Pitt. They switched QBs because Sam Darnald is better.

Doesn't mean that Browne can't be very good at Pitt, but Darnald might be the Heisman winner next year.

at the time, USC didnt think Darnald was ready.

if USC wouldve beaten Stanford, Browne wouldnt have been benched and Darnald wouldnt have seen the field this year.

of course Browne wouldnt be on his way to PITT right now, so it is a good thing that Stanford beat them.

I'm not a mcvittie fan but would rather go with him than Browne.

Here is my question to everyone excited about Browne playing @ Pitt.

if you were going to get your car fixed and the mechanic says he was the number 1 mechanic in the county 4 years ago but since couldn't beat out other people at his shop would you still take your car there or look for a another shop with a more recent highly rated mechanic ?

Do you need a new hose or your engine rebuilt?

I don't understand why ppl are so worked up about him coming here. He'll get an opportunity. If he plays well it's a good thing. He'll provide competition. MacVittie sees this and he knows he's gonna have to work harder both on the field and in the playbook. That's a good thing. The kid is well liked and was a good teammate at USC. He's likely good enough and better than what we have to be a back up in the event MacVittie does win the job and gets hurt. Or wins it in camp then stinks when the games start.

He's gone in a year regardless so if he sucks who cares. There's really no downside so stop getting your drawers in a bunch.

Well, I'm a huge McVittee fan, and think he is going to be a great QB.

But its great having Browne added to the roster. Providing competition is good, but what's even better about it, is that he provides depth, which was sorely needed.

Even if McVittee is ready, and is a star from day one, we'd be one injury away from seeing the season implode. We were hearing talk of Schneider leaving before Browne was being targeted, so he was likely gone anyway. That would've left just DiNucci and a true freshman behind McV. I think Pickett can be really good one day, but probably not as a freshman, and the staff seems unimpressed with DiNucci's development.

lets add some more realistic details.

that '#1 mechanic' basically lost a competition against a few other of the nations elite mechanics. he goes to a small town where a dude who fixed a vw bug in his garage once is his competition...

-Ever heard of Joe Flacco? He went to Pitt too. So saying so and so sucks because they have not been given much of a chance is fools gold at best, since you have no idea what he can do given a real chance. Just like that walk on down at Notre Dame that won the catholics vs convicts game. Turned into a leader and star when given the chance.

That is good to hear and I do hope that he does well at Pitt. I was just curious, as he was so highly recruited, as to why things didn't work out for him at USC. It looks like he really wasn't given much of chance to show what he could do.

QB is the most important position. Browne is a very good addition. At best - he plays well and starts. At worst - he is a valuable backup.

I've heard Rick Neuheisel say that those in and around USC's program thought Darnald should have been the starter all along but Helton wanted to give it to Browne more out of loyalty than anything else.

Regardless, I feel pretty much the same as KOAMB about the Browne transfer.

He didn't get much of a chance until his senior year. He was behind Kessler who's now in the NFL (barely, it is the Cleve Browns). He started the 1st 2 games of his senior year and was kinda meh. And one of those games was against Bama and I think they just got the snot kicked out of them. They put in the freshman, went on to have a good season, and the rest was history.
