Extend narduzzi and give him a raise

If this program lets him get away after a couple years and we lose another coach there should be sit ins and protests and cancellations of season tickets and no one going to the games at all and....

I'm getting ahead of myself of course but you get the idea.

Day after the Miami game I'd do it. I'd make it a huge contract, but I'd wait til then. Houston was undefeated and extended Herman and lost to UConn today. Let this fnal game of the season and senior day be the focus this week, then win or lose the game extend Narduzzi. Before Narduzzi can sell his vision of Pitt football to recruits, Pitt has to be able to sell coaching stability to those recruits. The guy has proven he can coach, it would be better to extend him and risk us not improving at the pace it looks like we will than to risk him leaving and us having to go through another coaching search.

Penn State fans over on BWI already saying Narduzzi will be gone after this year.

I 100% agree with the posters.
In addition - I also agree with the poster who made the comment about BWI saying that HCPN would leave after this year. . . . because PITT is "a stepping stone" position/school and will never retain top-level coaching. I have heard this many times before. I saw possibly 3 or 4 or even 5 posts on their (BWI) site about Narduzzi leaving. Makes me sick.
I did so much investigating on this and quite honestly at 2.0M/year HCPN is grossly under compensated. His staff and his facilities were a priority for HCPN when accepting the position - which the University upheld; maybe that helps us in this case.
To me this is 100% a case of what is the priority for the University. To see Holgorsen at 2.8M/year (3.3M/year with perks) and PSU's mr. insecurity at 4.4M/year tells me those schools are all in for football. This University HAS the money (endowments) to support the exceptional work our coach has done and the progression that this staff has made. In real world 101 (as in business [ROI]), the how can PITT not pay this man?
Coach Narduzzi should be at 4.0M/year next year. If not 4.0M/year then over the 3.0M range.

And finally, to continue my rant; obstacles like 93.7 The Fan and Ron Cook - local media in general and their lack of support for this program makes me sick. That is why I prefer to spend my time on Panther Lair. I surround myself with fans and support for the program. Our University does a terrible job "promoting" and selling this football program. If Narduzzi secures the 412Crew national success could be just a year away. I have stopped listening to 93.7 The Fan. When you have time to talk about stupid crap all day and can't even find time to "mention" a program on the verge of top 25...you have problems. Love this site.
How do each of us convey the seriousness of this issue to the University? We (the season ticket holders) and fans have stood by and waited years for this; I'll do anything I can to spread the word.

2.5 million is appropriate for a first time head coach. I would give narduzzi at least a million more per year after the job he has done. You can either play with the big dogs or not. Unfortunately there is no checks and balances for this salary escalation.

Well you're wrong, completely wrong. We have cleared out the trash-Pedersen and Nordenberg-who were clear obstacles to creating a successful FB program. . It's a different time, a different era. You are going gto see what Pitt is capable FB wise when the administration supports the program and when they have a solid coaching staff. When those factors have come together Pitt's historically has been an elite, yes, elite FB program. It's coming. So quit listening and stop believing the A-holes up at State college and support your team!

Narduzzi could care less about any extensions or salary increases right now, Coach Pat only focus is to improve his Team, and win the next 2 games, and grab more Recruits to turn into better Players to make Complete Teams.

He came to Pitt because he wanted to be at Pitt, and knows if he focuses on doing the job he always wanted, recognition, salaries, and contracts take care of themselves, unlike how Pederson and Chryst took care of themselves over Pitt?

Great coaches live to turn their recruits into better players to make better Team, and everything else takes carer of itself!

This is not a Hunch, it is the Character taught into Coach Pat by his Father Values and admired by the Coach himself by how he conduct himself!

Look how he refused to poach off of MSU for Recruits he badly needed, unlike Chryst and Franklin that poached from other Programs like Pitt, Vandy, Rutgers, Maryland, and other Programs?

Coach Pat Narduzzi like he said after recruiting last year, we got what we wanted and the ones we got want to be at Pitt and we will coach them up and win at Pitt! Now compare that to Chryst and Franklin's inability to improve their Players into complete Teams by the 10th and 11th Game??? Contracts comes from doing your job, not from demanding recognition, that is what Pederson, Graham, and Chryst was into, their own Buyouts not improving Pitt or Nebraska and Chryst does not know how to improve Wisky nor Graham at ASU?

Character matters and Coach Pat has it and teaches it to his Players not for his profit but for them, his program and the rest takes care of himself!

I love what Narduzzi is doing. I think he's the right guy for the program and will really elevate us. That being said, the man has been a head coach for less then a year. He's under contract and making a very tidy salary. If someone tries to poach him, we can respond, but short of that, relax.

We've been on a first date. Yes it was a great first date, but we don't need to propose next week.

Cruzer

Pretty good analogy.

And let's not forget that the college football world is filled with coaches who come in and do well early with someone else's players, then don't do so well with their own.

BWI has Narduzzi leaving and Harbaugh leaving in his case to the NFL... See a pattern yet?

i love how some of you guys see negotiations. as if any school in the country has leverage. if they have a good coach, who they like, they have to increase the rate and years guaranteed or that coach walks. it's supply and demand. how many coaches have we had who have out-performed expectations in the past 30 years? you want to negotiate against an agent against that?

agent: "oh yeah, pitt? well, va tech has better support, money, etc. and they're offering 1.5X what you are. you want pat to stay? pay up."

pitt: "we're his hometown team though. we gave him his shot. we have new uniforms coming in."

agent: "click."

Well, pitt shouldn't negotiate against themselves either.

I said this on the other board, I think the Pitt admin will do whatever is necessary to keep him here. I think the issue is if Narduzzi wants to go somewhere where he doesn't have to send out electronic messages for fans to come support a 7-3 team (at the time) and beg students to stay.

The money won't be an issue, IMO, and I think this admin is truly committed to building a winner. It's time for the students and fans to step up now.

If I were AD Barnes, I would have conversation with HCPN or his agent and let them know we are happy so far with his performance on and off the field. I would also say that as soon as the season is over we would sit down and review where we are and where we want to go to. If we win this week and our bowl game there most likely would be a bump to the coaches ( all ) salaries. If the increase to HCPN brings him over 2.5M/yr I would also increase the buyout.

I think we are sitting good with Narduzzi right now and am glad all these coaching vacancies are this year and not next.. I think new contract for coach should come after next year..

that doesn't even make sense. market forces; supply and demand. these are what we would be negotiating against.

Well, there's no sense in offering a new contract right now, not for a first year coach who i'm sure is already being paid market value. You can believe the this new administration is committed to winning [in contrast to the previous] myth all you want, but I doubt they are going to overpay a coach just to overpay.

Now obviously, if another place starts sniffing, you have to reconsider; I don't think anyone is advocating the "hometown discount" scenario you posted.

Extend Now[/QUOTEnone of
I would extend and raise. Sooner than later. Like maybe this week. Seriously,
it doesn't matter if they extend or not, even under a contract coaches leave when the opportunity comes. It seems like a contract is a waste of time and the paper it's written on, just like fraud graham did, it just doesn't matter, they will leave anyway, hopefully HCPN stays at Pitt be cause he wants to be here and because he is back close to home, he will be a really great coach here at Pitt so the university should give him and his staff a considerable increase, what ever it takes to keep him

With his success and all the vacancies, his name is going to come up. If his agent is worth a damn, Narduzzi will make a lot more jack next year than he did this season.

Some good points on here.. Honestly, if a big time program wants him, they will get him, no matter if we offer an extension or not. I believe Narduzzi when he says he wants to be here for the long term, I really do. But if he does what we all believe he will do for Pitt, some school is going to throw 5-6 million at him, it doesn't matter where he is from or how much his family likes western PA because he is gone.. Hey, it's life. Lets just hope this doesn't happen for a couple years and he puts us in a better position as a program where we can poach an up and comer coach from a lesser program.

To me, you wouldn't be extending to just up the coaches salary. The raise would be to keep stability within the program. If Pitt loses yet another coach, this program is in trouble.

You are paying for stability.

At some point, we have to be the school to throw the money at him.

I despise unrealists expectations. I really do. If Pitt were to pay big money, I fear the fans would turn on him if he didn't win 10 or 11 games ever year (at least some of them) However, its time we entered the fray and threw some money around just to let the world know that we are serious about becoming a football school again dammit!

Yes.... BWI is very nervous about being perennially the 4th-best team in the Big Ten East and also being the 2nd-best team in the state, at best.

He's one year into what I can only assume is a 5 year contract. I don't think an extension does much from that issue, unless Pitt were to go the Iowa State route and offer him something like 10 years.

I don't really see too many places going after him this season. Would cost too much money for a coach who is still relatively inexperienced and unproven. If Pitt were to win 9 games next year I think is when the interest would pick up.

The endowment can't be used for that....nor should it be.

Give him a nice bonus for this year. Give him a new contract in a year or two if he continues to do well.

From what I know of Narduzzi, I'll be surprised if he leaves - unless the AD/Chancellor screws up. Narduzzi is known as a loyal guy. He had many chances to be a HC and turned it down many times to stay at MSU. He turned down big money in the SEC for D-coordinator as well.

UM fans are spreading Dantonio rumors as well. I'm not buying those either.
