Maybe I missed it but I am surprised how little is being said about the injury. It's not as bad as with the NHL saying no more than something is either upper body or lower body but why so quiet? I'm hoping he can play at least part of the game Friday.

By all accounts, it is a bone bruise and it is very painful.

But nothing structural.

The Fan interviewed Ben Holland Tuesday. When asked about Fed’s knee bruise he responded that no way a player misses NCAA tourney game for a bruise and he expected Fed to play. Ben must think it is the year 2000 or earlier, because no way Gen Z players will play if they are not feeling fully comfortable

Yeah, they're not Brandin Knight.

Not basing it really on anything. Previous post said bone bruise and very painful. Believe me, I hope Fede plays.

10ish days feels like a long time to miss when there isn't any structural damage. Back in my day, you did a line and were back out there within 20 minutes.

Here's a thought that's probably counter-intuitive (and possibly nuts). Maybe Fede not playing helped us in a weird way. Because we had to play GDG, everyone on the team knew that he would be overmatched and they would really need to help. Every time Smith touched the ball he was double or even triple teamed. Smith actually had a pretty poor game. Only scored 13 and turned the ball over a bunch. I think that Pitt's swarming D really bothered him. If Fede is in there, you wonder if he might not have had as much help. The team knew they had to cover for the freshman and they did an amazing job of helping. Of course we'll never know but it's something that came to mind.

Cruzer

BTW - I'd really rather not test this theory on Friday.

I thought the same thing. For one game, everyone knew they had to double and triple down on Smith whenever he got the ball, and he was surprisingly caught off guard by this and had a subpar game. If Fede was playing, I assume they try to play him straight up with maybe the occasional double and I think Smith would have had a much better game. I agree though, I don't want to have to try this again, Miss. St. was really one of the worst shooting teams I've seen in a while.

Do you not understand a bone bruise is not a typical bruise ?

I think Ben Howland knows a little bit more about bone bruises than most of us do.

I actually thought this. Or lets say Feds plays, gets 2 fouls early then GDG is a deer in headlights. He was ready from the start.

It is something with just Pitt fans that if they don't agree with what you're saying, they attack you and/or call you names? Doesn't seem real smart or respectful. Maybe it's all sports fanbases.

Very possible, but probably still not many teams you can get away with doing that against. We might have played the literal one last night.

It's the overcompensating pendulum of society. You can't question anything that isn't overtly visible. Eventually, it will swing back too far the other far because too many people live in a constant state of needing to prove how "all in" they are on things, and they're incapable of nuance.

And I'm speaking in generalities--not about this knee injury, specifically. I know nothing about this injury at all.

They definitely team rebounded better for sure. Not Fede's fault but I agree with you on that it happened and your theory for why. Hopefully they now understand how hurt Fede is and do the same thing for him as well.

This one in particular goes back to the political board that used to be here. These particular guys were the main players on that board. The fire’s gone but the smoke remains.

Yes, I tend to agree with you. It's probably part of human nature and isn't going away.

I also know nothing about Fede's knee injury and don't think any of us do, unless there are orthopedic surgeons posting here who have treated him directly.

"Most bone bruises slowly heal over 1 to 2 months. A larger bone bruise may take longer to heal. You may not be able to return to sports activities for weeks or months."

Gotta love how this has turned into a bunch of old dudes "back in my day"ing.
“Back in mah day we dint let anything stop us… you got a cold? You play… bone bruise? You play… you got the running diarrhea? You put a plunger 🪠 up in there and change your drawers at halftime!!… these kids are soft!!!”

Both can be true, bone bruises are serious injuries that take a while to recover from AND this generation is soft weak and pitiful

“Back in my day” I would have taken two aspirin, rubbed BenGay on it, and played.

I stand corrected. We do have some orthopedic surgeons on this board who know a lot about Fede's bone bruise and know exactly how long it will take to fix it.

Right. A bone bruise can lead to further bone damage if not handled properly. I think people hear the word bruise and assume it’s just about playing through pain. It’s not.
As someone who ended up with a tibial plateau fracture who’s leg still hurts 9 years later -
It’s not something to ignore
