I was a bit relieved to see in the Root replay of the game that Blewitt actually hit a solid kick on the first FG attempt. The ball only missed by a yard or less. He either aimed just a tad too far to the right or was playing for a draw that he didn't get.

I actually think Pitt screwed up by having the team set up for that kick while the TV was still in an advertisement. Made no sense for them to be out there in formation for so long. It was like icing your own kicker. Not an excuse, but I hope they handle that situation differently in the future.

The blocked kick looked to me like the problem was with the blocking - but I don't know.

Also was impressive to learn about Villanova's DE #92. He looked and played like a beast at 6'7" and 290 pounds and he's a senior. We won't see too many specimens like him the rest of the season, I don't think... He may have been the guy who blocked the FG attempt.

Go Pitt.

One of the things from yesterday that concerned me was the kicking game. I'm glad he struck it solid but a miss is a miss and from that distance you gotta have someone that can make them. The block - didn't have the benefit of seeing the replay but it looked awfully low. His kickoffs were less than impressive as well.

And the punter flat out stunk.

It's one game so hopefully it was rust and/or jitters but they both need to improve.

Winslow can boom them in warmups - but also hits a lot of duds in warmups. He looked very frustrated that he kept hitting the same weak kick...

Go Pitt

Yea - I guess that's why the saying about seeing how someone does when the lights come on exists. I'm sure this country is littered with people who had extraordinary physical talent but for whatever reason froze up and couldn't perform when it was time to go live.
