Final Rivals Ranking

Collier (#35 PF ranked just outside top 150)

He's gotta be like 151 or 152. The last ranked PF in the top 150 (#149) is the 34th PF.

Still have Femi as SF, doubt the position they list him matters for rankings though.

Is this the last service to publish their final rankings? ESPN and 247 already have, correct?

Yeah that's what I thought and Max is in the top 200.

Everyone should be a getting a decent bump in the 247 composite, then. Might sneak Jeffress back into the top 100, and Odukale should get a huge jump (though ESPN never making a profile for him will hold him back).

Average stars

Overall - 49th

Only counting teams with 3 or more recruits (which may not mean anything) - 34th

Teams with 4 or more recruits - 20th

The "stars" measurement is dubious at best for basketball. Femi and Collier are both about 5 spots from being 4* with Rivals.

I’ll take your word and I wasn’t trying to be a wet blanket. I just know that number of recruits has too much weight so that was just a different look.

I’m not too terribly hip on this stuff but assumed that not all 3 stars were rated equally. But maybe that was another service or maybe it was football.

Here's an example of why.

Pitt and Wisconsin has 2 four stars and 3 three stars. Both have averages of 3.4 stars.

Pitt is ranked 16th and Wisconsin is 33rd.

ESPN gave up on not being a joke re: rankings a long time ago. I'm pretty sure that they literally just rank people by 247's composite rankings anymore.

Worth pointing out that for all of the grousing about our recruits getting dropped in the rankings for committing to Pitt that every single player in this class is ranked higher by Rivals than by any other service.

Yep. They done made guys like me look foolish today.

Hugley 77
Jeffress 79
Femi 145

Collier (#35 PF ranked just outside top 150)
Max (#40 C)

Pitt's class #17
#3 in the ACC

I'm going to try to avoid getting excited about "rankings" of our class or our recruits. A couple years past the top 10 2011 class that bombed, I decided this was a bad exercise to undertake.

Having said this, I think this is a very, very solid recruiting class. I wouldn't say great, because I don't see an immediate high impact player. But if Capel can string together one or two more classes much like this one, we will certainly be back in the tournament.

On a related note, it's good to see Femi ranked, because it certainly says he was truly starting to make an impression.

Nonetheless, I still think Capel can do a little better, and snag one of those immediate high impact players (a top 30-40 guy) in the next class or two.

For now, I'm quite pleased!

Agreed that this is a very solid foundational class. If you include Horton- he might be the high impact player for this group.

Going out on a bit of limb after watching a bunch of film; Femi might be the best player in the group right now. Even at #145 he's still really underrated imo.

Do you consider JHS in that category? He fell a little im the rankings but still top 40 I believe.

Hoping for an Efton Reed reclass. He's probably a quite impactful leader, at our weakest position.

Eventually yes, but not quite this coming year because of his reclass. I think he will be very good in a couple of years. But next year, he will still be a 17 year old high school senior playing among some 21-23 year olds. There will be times when he will look just like that.

But he'll help this year and he'll show some great flashes along with some struggles. Really just because he's so young.

Schifino was who he was referencing not Will

How do people think that a guy that chose between Pitt and UMass is underrated at 145? Would seem to be the opposite if you follow coach’s opinions and the composite.

6'5 with a crazy wingspan
Smooth athlete
Legit lead guard skills
Positional versatility

Saying he chose between UMass and Pitt isn't quite accurate, btw. Those may have been his finalists, but he had offers from Va Tech and Seton Hall as well.

I don't know that I'd necessarily agree with him being underrated at 145 right now, but if he comes close to reaching his potential, 145 will look silly in 4 years.

Isn’t he almost 20? I love that because if he’s here for 4 we need 24 year old seniors.

He couldn’t commit to Seton Hall. They had a PG committed and were looking for an immediate guy. VT I don’t know about but they had a solid frosh PG in Cone.

Jahari Long? He committed in July 2019. Femi was offered in January 2020 and OV'd in March 2020.

I find it really hard to believe they wouldn't have taken Femi, who isn't limited to one position, because they already recruited the...31st ranked PG in the class.

I put a lot of time into film study of Femi several months back. He grew 2 or 3 inches last summer (what a spurt!) and I swear his arms outgrew the rest of him. His handle fell apart due to the spurt (his handle was much smoother & tighter the year before) and he spent all season working to get it back where it needs to be.

Odukale's the kind of worker that you don't need to worry about him putting in the time during the off season. He will get it were it needs to be, and the rest of his PG game is quite legit. What a ceiling!

Yeah, the first time I saw him play, I was sold. A late bloomer with crazy physical attributes who's getting overlooked largely because it's a poor year for his state. Usually these guys are completely boom or bust, but I feel like Femi has a higher floor than that solely because of his size/wingspan. Maybe he doesn't improve his shot and we find out he can't hack it as a PG in the ACC, but he can still be a nice rotation piece as a defensive stopper.

Bryce Aiken was backchanneled to Seton Hall in late February. I’m assuming they let him visit to keep the relationship or let him play on the wing with Stevens.

Were those his only offers?
Offers you can commit to are the only thing that matters. If you want to add Seton Hall, st Bonnie’s, Manhattan, VT, WSU, New Mexico, Niagara, Stonybrook it looks slightly better

it doesn’t really mean much as I see him as a role player here... which we desperately need. I just don’t think I’d categorize him as underrated.

Jeffress because of age, Collier with potential, Hugley with production... any of them I could see as making that argument with.
