The Firing Squad began to assemble and unholster their weapons early on today when Pitt fell behind.

"His team quit," said one of the chief executioners. Indeed.

While the losing streak and especially the ND game were grim, PN most definitely did not lose his team, which bounced back rather convincingly today -- especially the defense.

If PN is going succeed here,

  1. he's need to get his guys,
  2. play his game,
  3. get better, and
  4. win.

In the rush to tear him apart every time something doesn't go well, what get's lost is that he's built a credible roster with the most depth in a long while, especially on defense. He's playing his game on defense and doing it much better than a few years ago.

Coaches don't get stupid overnight. The defense today -- without Twyman,
Ford, Pinnock and Mathis -- was impressive. The rush was overwhelming.

The offense is not at same level as the defense. It lacks the same depth as the defense. When KP is healthy, Pitt has a decent passing game. There's some talented receivers. While there are no great RBs, there's enough talent that the running game should not be this ineffective. It needs to get better.

All teams have bad days and can have a bad streak. The 4-game losing streak was bad. Today, however, was impressive.

The streak was a step back. Today, they plugged the leak. Need to finish this way.
But on the whole, Narduzzi has progressed and is progressing. Look at the roster.
It's there. If Pitt plays like it did today, recruiting will continue to improve.

Put away your guns.
