I usually watch a lot of B1G games but I was really busy the last 4 months, so I saw very few. UW started out poorly, then the coaching change and then they seemed to get it together and finished strong (except for their last 2 games). Good guard play, not as strong inside as they've been in years past.

I think we all know that Dixon has a habit of having his teams too tight for the tournament. I think very few will be picking Pitt over the Badgers and if we do persevere, no one will be picking us over Xavier (who I think wins handily over Weber State). Perhaps this is the year we play loose and with nothing to lose.

Wisconsin did not play that well the past two weeks. I think the point spread is either pick 'em or Pitt -2.

We need to crush them on the boards.

Probably technically 2 weeks but only 2 games, away vs. Purdue where it was Senior Night and the Boilermakers shot like 65% and their BTT game against Nebraska where admittedly they did not look good. I don't think it will be a pick me game, not with Pitt losing 4 out of their last 6.

Maybe not as strong inside as in the past but 6-9, 6-8, 6-8 up front which isn't a very good physical match for us.

What kind of defense do they play? Man? zone? Do they play good defense?
Thanks to anyone who knows.

There are several places, mostly off shore, that already have the spreads up. Depending on which place you are looking at Wisconsin is favored by 2-3 points.

Wisconsin should be favored. Frankly, they are a poor mans UVA, which is a type of team we usually struggle against. I think it's a close game, with Wisconsin pulling away late. I would guess 68-61, something like that.

That being said, I don't hate the matchup, the region and seed are fine, and it's a Friday prime time game. I'm 100% satisfied with draw.

ESPN said it best,

38. Pittsburgh Panthers
After finishing eighth in ACC play in per-possession offense anddefense, Pitt is so thoroughly mediocre, and so obviously destined to lose on the first weekend, that we'd be less surprised to see Stony Brook in the Sweet 16. Wait: Does that make Pitt a Cinderella?!

Wow, that was a bit harsh. If Pitt was that "mediocre" they would have never made the field.

Pomeroy just put his game predictions up. He has it Wisconsin 65-64, with Pitt with a 44% chance to win.
I was just looking at WVU, what are their chances to win? I like their opponent, though I know they don't have much of a chance. I want them to win so I can yell: STEVE!

Realistically speaking I put this game at a tossup. If Pitt survives they would have to play nearly flawless to get past Xavier. As we know Pitt has been very inconsistent this year, as a team and individually. Great performances followed by bad ones.

The odds of playing great and winning two in a row and making past the weekend are not very good.

So the key to me as a fan is to look forward to watching my team and rooting them on. And hope against hope that this team at least plays up to their potential as long as they are in it.

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing. Should we assume you'll be following your usual policy with Pitt hoops and rooting for them to lose?

His prediction is 74-69 Hoopies, with the Hoopies win odds at 70%.

He has the Hoopies 6th overall and Stone Cold Stephen F. Austin as 33rd overall, which means that according to his rankings the Hoopies are a little underseeded and Stone Cold is very much underseeded.

I'm taking that as my upset. ND has been just ok lately, the question is, do I have the stones to take Steve another round?

They're a very solid defensive team. They are mostly a man team that really pressures the ball and guards the perimeter closely.

Bo Ryan is gone, which is good for us, but his protege is in place, and defense is a hallmark of Wisconsin basketball. They rely on it. They aren't great personnel-wise this year, but we will have our hands full. We will need to get the ball to the rim and into the post a lot.

Massey composite rankings say SF Austin is #59, WVU #7.

Would be nice!

That's a bad match up for us. Their starters are bigger up front so it will be hard to be effective against them inside.

we won't have much room to shoot beyond the arc, so we will need to get to the rim. Guard play will be a major factor-Wisky puts a lot of pressure on the ball, and we only have one legitimately capable ball handler.

The plus side is this is not their best group of players. and the maestro, Bo Ryan won't be on their bench.

As an aside, what a scum ball he turned out to be. I always thought he was one of the "good guys" in college basketball. When I read about all his shenanigans the last 6 years, I was legitimately shocked as I would be if Dixon did this.

Bo Ryan shenanigans? Not familiar. Please share

Thank you. Wow who knew?
I know, right? The funniest part of the whole story (if you can call this story funny) was when he showed up to resign "because he wanted to give his asst coach the chance to earn the job" with 2 attorney's. Ok.................

Having a ton of fun with this with my Wisconsin buddies this am. Better question: Who wants to have an affair with Grandpa Munster? Wow o_O

Why kill a guy over a (6 year) "mistake"??

Atleast "charge" the woman with really bad judgement.
"Bo don't look like no prize."
But maybe he has size 12 shoes who knows!

Hey guys, Wisconsin fan here just giving a little info.

On D, we are exclusively man. We don't really pressure the ball, but the philosophy is to make you shoot long twos - we've been good at limiting 3PA (though we give up a high conversion rate) and will try to deny and help on anything in the lane - we don't like to double team, but will on occasion. To amplify the we-don't-really-pressure-the-ballhandler point, our leader in steals is our center - he actually led the B1G in steals.

On offense, the big difference with the coaching change is that we went back to Bo's "swing" offense (insert chuckle here with his extramarital dalliances). We had gone away from that with the more talented and now-departed players like Kaminsky and Dekker in the lineup, but this group needed more structure.

Individually, Koenig & Hayes are the experienced players and leading scorers. Hayes draws a lot of fouls - I think he's among the leaders in FTA nationally. Showalter & Brown played sparingly in previous years, and Happ is the RS frosh who you will hear the announcers say went up against Kaminsky every day in practice (if they say that, everybody has to take a drink - that and he's related to J.A Happ). Those are the starting 5 and they play a lot of minutes. We do play 4 subs fairly regularly, with Hill getting the most minutes because he's the only real backup G.
