Hope everyone is enjoying Memorial Day.
Pitt will have a bunch of offered targets on campus in the next few weeks, starting on Tuesday. Here's a look at who's visiting and when they're coming.
Connor Heyward
Visit: May 31
Heyward is a legacy recruit for Pitt - he's the son of Craig "Ironhead" Heyward and the brother of Steelers defensive end Cam Heyward - and he likes the Panthers quite a bit. Connor told us he has daily contact with Pitt, and while he's considering quite a few schools, the Panthers do seem to be in good shape with him. Heyward plans to take a few trips this summer and isn't rushing his commitment, but his ties to Pitt and the city of Pittsburgh bode well for the Panthers. Pitt likes Heyward as an athlete - meaning the coaches think he could play receiver, safety or linebacker in college.
Cam Bright
Visit: May 31
Bright is coming to Pitt on Tuesday from Alabama, but his roots are much closer. He's originally from Ohio, so he's familiar with the region, and Pitt is his top offer right now (the other two are Bowling Green and Miami, OH). Bright looks like he could be a candidate to get the annual June commitment rush started, although he does plan to visit Bowling Green and Louisville after Pitt, so that might have to wait a bit.
Nathan Proctor
Visit: May 31
Proctor is a big-time linebacker target with an offer sheet - Cal, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Ole Miss, Missouri, UNC, NC State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech from the P5 conferences - to match. As such, getting him on campus is a huge step. And Pitt has some angles as well: Proctor is close with 2016 linebacker recruit Chase Pine and his high school coach went to Pitt, so there are a few elements working in the Panthers' favor. Plus, he's making this trip from Maryland just to visit Pitt; no other stops are planned. That's another positive sign.
Dontavius Butler
Visit: June 7
Butler got an offer from Pitt this spring and the Panthers pretty quickly caught his interest. He is in regular contact with receivers coach Kevin Sherman and area recruiter Tim Salem, and he likes what he has heard so far, from the academics to the offensive scheme. Plus, his mother has already taken a liking to Pitt, and that's always a big step in any recruitment. With all of that going in Pitt's favor, Butler has gone as far as to say that the Panthers are his favorites right now. He's got a handful of visits he wants to take this summer, but Butler looks like a strong candidate to be the first reward Pitt reaps from its heavy push into Florida this spring.
Josh Palmer
Visit: June 12
Like Butler, Palmer is a three-star receiver prospect from Florida who got an offer from Pitt this spring. Palmer's got a more impressive offer sheet - Illinois, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, N.C. State, Purdue, Syracuse and Wake Forest are also on the list - and his film shows more explosive playmaking ability. But most importantly, Palmer is like Butler in that he's got a lot of interest in Pitt. He might not call the Panthers his favorites like Butler does, but he's traveling a long way to check out the school. He'll also stop at Maryland on this trip and has more visits planned for the summer and into the season, so he isn't likely to be making a decision anytime soon. But getting him on campus this summer will be an important step for the Pitt staff in working to secure an official visit this fall/winter.
