Today I got an interesting email from the athletic department that kinda makes me wonder. They are offering 30 percent off season tickets for anyone who graduated after 2014, for three years after you graduated.

Part of me really likes the idea offer a discount to kids who are more than likely paying off some debt after school. Another part of me says that the person taking advantage of this would have bought season tickets regardless. A few of my buddies graduated this past semester and they said they were already purchasing season tickets before they saw this.

My question is do you think this will attract former students who recently graduated to purchase season tickets? I think as cheap as they are the people who are going to take advantage of this would have just bought them anyway.

use everything in the tool box ! you want to try anything to move the dial off 35,000 diehards who show up every game. you woulda' thought the next home game after the upset of Clemson woulda' been ass kicking crowd. nope. .

Yes, one of my employees and his six classmates are planning on taking advantage of the discount.

Remember back in 2003-2004 when the PENS had the student "rush". The students lined up and got the empty seats in the Igloo on a first come first serve basis for free. Not sure of all the details but one of our kids took advantage of this and has been a PENS season ticket holder since he graduated PITT.
As another poster mentioned the goal is to get kids to the games, hope they purchase seasons tickets eventually, and bring their families eventually. The long, long, term hope is that their kids do the same thing!
If you've ever attended an Alabama, LSU, or Clemson game its a generational thing that they've got going which lasts forever!

You can buy for your friends and coworkers too.

I think the vast majority would have bought them anyway, but if this reels in a few more it is smart.

It's a smart thing to do this particular thing I guess because it transitions grads who likely don't yet have a surplus of money (if even working yet). Reduces the shock of those who had nearly free student tickets up to then.

But I have to imagine much of Pitts marketing sessions are like a Dilbert strip, with the pointy-hair boss representing the administration, waddling into the room and imploringthe mostly beaten down staff to devise evermore desperate ways to trick customers to buy the crappy product. While, of course, ignoring the obvious (to improve the product itself).

I once got second row for a Pens game because of student rush for some ridiculously low price.

David Priestly once showed up and cut the line like a true douche.

You must improve the long term fan base by any means necessary. I think it is a good idea. Plus, more butts in the seats is usually a good thing.
