Sweet 16:

ACC - 5 teams
Pac 10 - 3 teams
Big 10 - 2 teams
Big 12 - 2 teams
SEC - 1 team

Gonzaga
Wichita State
Xavier

On a funny note to me, Pitt, I mean Virginia, was the only ACC team to lose. They are so much like Pitt where their lack of scoring crushes them.

ACC looks good but I disagree with the Pitt /Virginia comparisons. And it should be Virginia and not Duke in the sweet 16. How do you win a conference but are seated lower (and of course ends up with harder games ) then the team who finished two places behind you ?

How? When you lose to the other team in question in a league that does not have balanced conference scheduling and only have one more conference victory and are ranked lower, basically, on all the metrics used by the selection committee and would be a 5 point underdog on a neutral court...that's how.

More proof that the Cinderellas NEVER win! They pull a few upsets every year, but in the end, the Power 5s win every time.

Every one knows the eventual champ is almost always from a power 5 conference but it's those cinderella upsets that give the tournament much of it's popularity.

And it's almost always an elite Power5 type team. When was the last time a Pitt type of program won the whole thing? Maybe Maryland, but even that is a stretch, as Maryland had been a power in the ACC for 30 years when they finally won.

What do you mean when you say "a Pitt type of program"?

Good. Cinderella teams are fun in Round 1. But by the Sweet 16, I want the best teams left. It want good basketball, not a 1 seed crushing some Cinderella.

I still believe the only Pitt team(s) Virginia really compares to would be the Dixon's first year with Krauser as a SO and the squads Aaron Gray's JR and SR year. So... The Fields/Young/Blair and Gibbs/Wanamaker squads didn't really have that issue and regularly scored a good deal of points, unless and famously in the case of ND's burn offense, their opponent slowed them down. But, again, this UVa squad is like Pitt teams from nearly or over a decade ago. Pitt teams that almost always advanced to the second weekend.

Though, one must admit - along with Pitt - Villanova, Georgetown, Gonzaga and now Virginia have that rep. And, honestly, Kansas to a lesser a degree. I assume if Hoidberg continues to underachieve in the tournament he'll draw the same label at Iowa State. Gotta say though, sucks to play Sparty. Knocked Louisville out in the Elite Eight the year Pitt came up just short of the Final Four too. Hell, taking multiple 5 seeds to the Final Four and even title game, Izzo knocks A LOT of good teams out sooner than they'd prefer. I'd hate to be in a region with him. Two years running UVa had to match Izzo in Round of 16 or the Round of 32.

It will be interesting to see if they make a run next season with a roster stocked with SRs.

Second, Cinderella squads may not win BUT Butler advanced to final game twice and teams like VCU, Wichita State, George Mason, etc. advanced as far as the Final Four. They can advance relatively deep given the proper circumstances.

A Pitt type of program, is a program that is a top 50 program, but not in the top 12-15, which is where the National Champions usually come from. These programs make the tournament frequently, and will occasionally make deep runs, but they never cut down the nets the first Monday in April. Think of programs like Oklahoma St., Stanford, etc. Wisconsin has been this type of program, but now they're trying to take the next step.
