I think it's just total media shutdown, by powers to be, with pitt FB. we all rail about local local media who fail to report about the pitt FB program... but I think the fault lies with the pitt sports administration-and its reluctance to open the program .. you can, of course, see why. but there has to be some happy medium.

Despite your prolific posting on this site, Swervin, the question must be asked: Are you truly a Pitt fan and supporter? This statement seems a little hateful if not outright PSU-ish.
Huge Pitt fan, just frustrated. Think they are dropping ball on this.

Hateful? Think that's a bit over dramatic. With that said, you say no enough times, people will stop asking. With the access given to media, it is pointless for the trib and gazette to have a pitt beat writer though, wouldn't you agree?

I'm ok with them closing the scrimmage. Do we as fans really NEED access to every practice and scrimmage? Find something fun to do this weekend, the Park, the beach, the bar, a Taylor swift concert .... the team will still be here Monday morning I assure you.

It's not their jobs to please the fan base. It's their job to win games.
Well as long as you are good with it. That's all I need. Thank you. Now excuse me, I'm headed out to go see Taylor swift.

This coaching staff is telling the pitt fans to go away, there's nothing to see here and come back on September when the games start. I don't think I'm overstating this either, that's exactly what the coaching staff is telling fans and the media.

I think that is stupid, shortsighted and possibly detrimental to growing your fan base.

Have you ever been a head football coach?

Losing tells the fans to go away. Not lack of info from a scrimmage. Winning brings the fans into the stadium. And Yes, you are overstating it..

This may be the most ridiculous thing ever posted on here. Your acting like a baby.

We need every advantage we can get. No one knew what our offense looked like last year until it was 28-0 over penn state. That's an advantage.

Agree to disagree. I do find it ironic that this topic has about 8 threads on same topic. We are debating this because we have nothing else to debate, since none of us have any info on the program.

Maybe that one poster is right. Maybe we should all forget about pitt football until fall and go see Taylor swift in concert.

Saturdays are what I care about. Don't care about coach speak or scrimmage notes. Who gives a shit if you can't perform on Gameday. Find a hobby like shuffleboard or do some mall walking.

I'm already going to Taylor swift, no time for shuffleboard.

So in other words, go away til September, just like the staff is saying. Got it.

I trust the beat writers and Chris peak enough to cover the team without communicating info that would be detrimental to the team. You obviously don't. Again, we will agree to disagree.

This topic is getting boring. We aren't getting anywhere and pitt could obviously care less about what some of us want. I SAID GOOD DAY.

Judging by how much you Whine, I am sure Pitt will be fine without fans like you. Nothing they do will make you happy anyway.

So you get a little upset and you go to name-calling? it's a simple debate, a disagreement between increasing access to practice, nothing more. no one is going anywhere, no one's going to start rooting for other teams. you're the one being a drama queen here not me.

We should take another tack and show them EVERYTHING we have with our DEFENSE. That will make them so complacent and over confident we may actually stop em a couple times.

There was one interesting piece of info from the scrimmage yesterday. Narduzzi noted that our new place kicker made a 52 yard field goal. So we now know he has the leg--if we didn't before. We don't know about his accuracy or consistency, of course.

We may also get a few tiny tidbits of additional "coach speak" info when Narduzzi does his Monday pre-practice presser.

Penn State had not seen Pitt's offense, and that offense scored 42 points. Later in the season, Clemson had seen plenty of film on Pitt and the offense scored 43 points. How much of an advantage was it?

You have comprehension issues also. No name calling, just said you whine.. And you do plenty just in this thread..
Fair enough. The only possible solution is to do with a lot of you guys still in completely forgot about the program until September, that seems to be the best course of action

Good lord. This "nitter" crap is beyond ridiculous.

If that is the approach they are going to take, they better start actually winning games. And, no, 8-5 isn't good enough to play the "we are focused on winning, not pleasing the fans" card. Wait till September and then what happens in October if we are 1-3? Having fans less engaged and less invested seems like a fabulous strategy.

Pitt does all it can , in my view only , to not be seen, heard, or talked about , each football season , starting at the top. It's their right don't see the point.

This coaching staff is keeping it a closed practice.. if a closed practice is telling PITT fans to go away I would NEVER read that into it.. Closed means closed, simple.

Beg for a fan base then tell them to go away. So we are seeing more PSU articles locally and you think that's a good business model. Hmmmmm

Media should ignore pitt back.
Don't worry they already to that!
Now what!
This is the job of the new AD ( what's her name) to work with the football and basketball program HC's and the media to establish media guidelines that everyone understands so there's no hard feelings.
A poster said the new AD (what's her name) isn't media shy. I agree but she doesnt say or do anything meaningful when she communicates. Its mostly boilerplate, catchy, trendy stuff so in my mind she cant be challenged or cornered! She would make a great politician! Politicians don't make great college sports AD's!

Dude... she's campaigning for her next job. She's never going to give up anything interesting because her next bosses, wherever they are, would see that and look at it negatively. Now, if there was GREAT news about our sports she'd certainly be more forthright. But because all of our interesting news would be embarrassing news (what caused the suspensions, how did the medical staff whiff so badly on Hamlin, why is Stallings tolerated, etc), all she's going to spew is the generic fluff.

She is doing her job exactly how Pitt wants her to do her job. Here is the new boss , same as the old one. She is kind of like the role of the Pirates GM, if that helps you.

Pitt never hires the stud , the one they get that is coveted by many schools. Rinse and repeat , and it use to kill me , now I accept it like I do the Pirates

I agree , but the local media treats them like the home team these days , and it seems Pitt is helping with that. I would welcome the media , do what the Pirates do , let them pick the line ups each night , they won't write a negative article and business as usual.
Pitt isn't handling things particularly well (shock!). But what happens with Pitt is not relevant to PSU coverage. The media is filled with cultists, and the others who aren't cultists know they have to play ball. Even Peak here ... a finer Pitt advocate would be hard to find, and we can be grateful for this site. He tolerates some of the truth on PSU that no other Pittsburgh media related entity ever would. Until it gets a little TOO true. A mite too uncomfortable for the trolls who monitor and buzz our site (but we're not rivals). Then he feels the pressure to get rid of it. Although the PSU posters can troll at will.

But we can't really blame him, he needs to feed his family, and allowing too much bluntness about PSU (or slamming the trolls) would end his appearances on FAN shows or late night sports reporter roundups.

Just like the Pitt admin seems in denial that these are professional sports and need to be run ruthlessly like the dog eat dog business they are, we fans need to recognize the same truth about "journalism".

Good points

While Pitt typically allows 30 minutes media access, I usually see the no media access for State Penn U...

PENN STATE
