As I’m sure many of you are aware, or maybe you aren’t, there’s a QB out at Arizona who’s been lighting up the Pac12 for more than a month now, Khalil Tate. He was a highly recruited athlete out of Southern Cal who went there to play QB in Rich Rod’s system. Now keep in mind he’s a true sophomore who played sparingly last season. Heading into the season he was listed as the backup QB. The only reason the kid even got on the field was because the starting QB, Brandon Dawkins (who is flat-out awful) got injured, and now look at him. Rich Rod is one of the top offensive minds in the country and he didn’t think the Tate kid was ready, when he has shown by his play the complete opposite. Now is he an idiot for playing the other kid? No, it was his opinion, similar to Narduzzi’s in regards to Pickett, that he wasn’t quite ready yet. I personally think that the Pitt coaches were surprised by how well Pickett performed today. It is of my opinion that after watching the film there’s no doubt in my mind that they’ll come to the conclusion, that all of us did who watched the game, that Pickett is ready to take the reigns as the starting QB. Be prepared for the “OR” this week though!
Here’s an article I found where Rich Rod addressed the question about why Tate wasn’t the starter from the get-go.
