Sterling Jenkins - Baldwin HS and PS. It was clear to anyone with a clue that he was going to be a bust. Kids in HS who weren’t D3 level were dominating him. But yet he was somehow a 5 star at one point.

Was fairly new to town his jr year and went to Baldwin/Central Catholic playoff game on South Side. Blown away when he ran out. Equally blown away how soft he was. Thought he was the ultimate looks like Tarzan plays like Jane.

Gotta take a chance on him though...just have low expectations.

I honestly don't think he'll play at Duquesne. They're not bad.

What site rated him a 5-star? I’ve looked at the big 3 and they all had him a 3 or 4 star?
He was initially ranked a 5 star recruit and then ended up #209 national recruit (247 site). He played in the All-American HS All-Star game and was 1st All-State. But yet was NOT chosen first team all conference. In other words, the hype train was full board but the people that watched him play with their eyes open realized that was ridiculous.

Okay, so he wasn’t a 5-star.

Sterling is the first of two former 5-star players from W. PA. who initially went to PSU and will have finished their college career at Duquesne University.

Please respect their decisions...

That, and what a player looks like in camps.

I would only add that the possibility of developing a kid once in college with these measurables leads to inquiry and offers from the big programs. They have the ability to take a chance.

Which leads us back to recruiting services, which see the offers as obvious Intel that he must be a player.

But sometimes.....a stiff in high school doesnt rise from the ashes in college.

They simply remain a stiff.

He was initially ranked a 5 star, and ended up as a 4-star. Reading comprehension for PS fans is a weakness.

Good burn, man. Meanwhile, you’re on a message board trashing a 20 year old kid because he didn’t want to come to Pitt. Our fambase’s obsession with Pittsburgh teenagers that decide to go to school elsewhere is mind blowing to me.

He is a 22 year old grown man. I could not believe he was rated that high. I felt the same way when I saw Pat Bostick and Paul Jones play in HS. I was very confident that none of them would do much on the field. It has nothing to do with where they are from or where they went to college. By the way, which PS branch campus did you attend?

Any word on Raines after the new hire? Thought I saw something about he was mad after Holgerson left....

What do you mean “our fan base”????? Stop the buffoonery! You’re a nitter and EVERYONE knows it... The only one “obsessed” is you or you wouldn’t be here... Scram...

I actually thought Jones would have done well in Pitt's offense at that point

Looked like Tarzan, played like Jane. Pitt coaches got torched by some because UPS got him from under our noses. He was a bust from day one.

I never understood Bostick’s rating. He had that horrbile hitch in his throw, was worse than Phillip Rivers’ but without the arm strength or the accuracy. Or the talent or intangibles.

Didn’t see him in high school, but he had no business playing at the P5 level.

So OP (and others) lie and say this kid was a 5-star, and I do the research and find that at no point in his high school career was he a 5-star. Now I’m a Penn State fan? All I pointed out was that he was never rated a 5-star - that’s a fact.

Lots of players wanted Gibson as the HC..What will they do since he obviously wasn't chosen..?? Not sure if he's staying on staff or not, but he was a favorite of theirs.

When he picked ups over pitt I told everyone on the board his film looked horrible it’s no big loss because his film really did look horrible. I was called a homer but he looked flabby and out of shape .

I like a ton of local recruits even those that go elsewhere, but you could tell this kid was lazy and also why stars are questionable sometimes. Often a big school offers and ratings soar. Not always, but in this case it did

The Oline is the hardest position to evaluate, Jenkins was rated as high as he was because he was very athletic for his size with good flexibility. 247 talent evaluators will tell you they rank on NFL projections and Jenkins had the measurables.
