I think you are on to something about the "early days" Paterno vs latter-day Paterno. I recall early on how he used to talk about how much more to life there was than football. Later, I think it impacted him when Bear Bryant died so soon after retirement, because he had nothing else in his life. The irony is that Paterno ended up even more tied to his precious football program than the Bear had been.

I spoke with a huge PSU fan on Saturday and asked him about the Texas hat he was wearing. Said that he's just had it and that he has decided that there's just too much smoke surrounding Paterno that he can't ignore it. That's where I think the narrative will go. Don't expect the family or the most committed to go along with it but it's starting to feel like more and more people are ending up there.
He badly wants to be a Coach at Penn State and return but PSU CULTISTS ON BWI pointed out Lavar lacked a Diploma but loved when he was recruited and played at Penn State, now trashing him?

Lavar should have chosen Pitt he would have earned his Diploma and not have conflicted feelings today as he does about Penn State and could have been a Coach at Pitt. A good lesson for all recruits to think about today.

As I have stated many times, many fine and very high caliber Penn State Graduates and Alumni. One by one, many are starting to realize Joe may not have practiced "ALL" of what he preached? Nor all of Joe's fault either, Penn State created many Slogans that gave way to Swollen Swagger. Neither could redeem a Great Coach that never himself called himself a Saint?
I feel for his Family at the same time, because Joe did and does deserve much respect and right charitable things devoting much time to making great recruits, students, and players as well. However, many Penn State Fans thought that was only done at Penn State under Joe and that made them special. many those types took great joy in attacking other Programs, Players and Coaches.
All at the same time, not knowing Joe & Staff also had to compete and cut corners too, but then saying WE ARE better and Joe used that too to compete better. Still, Joe never called himself nor felt entitled to be called a Saint and for good reason. He was not one.
Joe could be petty, secretive, and back biting like any competitor in a tough competitive business. And why Spanier said, Joe had a "Dark Side"! We all go from young & dumb and learn to deal with it. But sometimes being too competitive and justifying it by just winning one day, then later making mistakes that few knew can can comeback and haunt a legacy can happen as well. Just talk to Mangino, Leach, Groh, Briles, or Cosby in various degrees of regrets, mistakes, and outcomes yet to come?
It is one thing to be a Great Coach but beating other Great Coaches and doing things to do it, may not always be noble as others thinks by a slogan. Legacies are decided years later not just after 3 to 5 years.
When other information comes out, it can be mixed with Good, Bad, and Ugly with Success & Scandal and then turn into Pulitzer's, Books, and Movies. Franco has lost his mind. I would hope MOST PSU fans, not the nutty rivals minorities, but real fans, have told him to STFU. He would have pissed me off million times over, if I was a victim, or family of the victims.

He's a new guy at the club so I showed him my PITT wallet and key chain and reminded him how PITT will kick Nitter butt on 9/10/16 and he shut up!
He got friendly at that point and told us that a lot of Nitter season ticket holders cant get PITT tickets for the game??? I think that's good news. He told us he has hotel rooms and cant get tickets even though he gets Nitter away game tickets for most other away games.
Maybe they've been shut out?? Good!
