Man oh man I am stumped on this one. I asked my friends and they are split on this.

Ashton was a beast his junior year with us and so was Lamar in his senior year here.

I think I am going to go with Lamar by a hair only because he is a more well rounded player imo. But I would love junior Ashton on this upcoming team. Near 50% 3 point shooting? Damn. Man it's tough.

Okay I'm going with Lamar by a hair.

Gibbs because having a second (besides Horton) really good 3-ball shooter would be far more valuable than having another small forward—roster is loaded with wing players.

The shooter. We have potential Lamar Patterson types now.

That's pretty much what I thought. Devoid of any context I would give Patterson a modest advantage over Gibbs. Given the current roster I would take Gibbs for the next season.

"potential"?? Lamar would be our best player all year. Let's hope someone gets to that level. I voted for Gibbsy....teach Brown or Hugley to set screens....win 20 games.

Close poll, means it's a good one. I went Gibbs, but I can see why you might want Lamar. Lamar was clearly the more well-rounded player, but Gibbs had the best one skill between the two. Since that skill is shooting, which we need badly, I went with Gibbs.

On last years team or even the last two years the answer hands down would be Gibbs , but with the addition of Horton and the improved shooting of Toney last year I think the overall play of Lamar would be more beneficial . Hopefully JC shooting will improve and with the addition of Big John Pitts outside shooting will be much improved. For the record Lamars best yr he shot .388 from three vs Gibbs .439 so out of 100 shots AG made 5 more . I’d take Lamars overall game over 1 more three per game .

That was exactly my thinking too. Last year I take Gibbs. This season with Horton and the way Toney improved and hopefully all our other guys I think Lamar the way he played as a senior is the right call.

I meant the current players have the potential to be like Lamar eventually.

I know, but it's about this year's squad. Horton may be the answer, but we need another shooter. I'm thinking Champ gets better every year, and Jeffress might be an AA someday.
We should be much improved this year...quality depth, except PG.

Gibbs' junior year was such an outrageous outlier for him in terms of efficiency. Counting stats don't look terribly different over his last 3 years, but he went from a 56.8 TS% in 09-10 to 64.8 in 10-11. That's like going from Buddy Hield to James Harden. Lamar was the more versatile player, but you can plug junior year Gibbs into any lineup and you'll make it better with minimal adjustments needed due to the role that he plays. I think more highly of Lamar overall, but for one year I'll take the guy shooting 49% from 3 every single time.

We need shooters and Ashton was a great one, but Lamar was just a better all around player who could do everything well.

That was my thinking. We could use an all-around player like that who can pass, score and facilitate the offense. Replacing Horton with Gibbs didn't make sense to me. I couldn't see them both on the floor at the 2/3. But LP would play the #3 with Toney either becoming our 6th man or splitting minutes with Champ.
