family member had new seats under scoreboard. in the past i've stood there -in passing, coming or going to my seats.. IT'S LOUD ! my relative sat there during steeler exhibition game and he said between annoucements and that effing annoying music they would play at pitt games it got so he had to leave his seats. extreme i guess-but at least if your there with young children have them wear ear protection. get earplugs for yourself and you'll still be able to hear whats going on.just sharing. (you know it's loud when you can feel the vibrations coming up through the floor of the stadium.)

The overly loud music seems to be one of the most cited complaints, so hopefully the Fan Experience Committee will discuss this and improvements will be made. It's college football after all, not a rock concert.

I think the dilemma, especially for Pitt, is that they probably feel they have to cater to the student dynamic and conclude this requires constant blaring of music, and more precisely, more current songs. I think 'old timers' (and everyone has to make their own peace if they are in this category now or not) probably would tolerate the music at Pitt games better if it were more geezer-oriented, like at Steeler games. Nobody I know who goes to Steeler games seems to ever complain about the music volume.

But remember Pitt has to try to keep and secure the students as future fans. I'd argue giving them a WINNER is the better way to do that. But if playing current pop/rock/rap loudly has been found effective, they certainly should ignore what I might prefer and continue it ... I'll be dead a lot earlier than those kids.

I definitely am no sound expert but I also wonder if the south scoreboard always had to be at max volume because it had to reach the north end zone sections. Wouldn't the new 2nd scoreboard (which I'd also assume has integrated sound of its own) help in that regard? Couldn't the south scoreboard volume now be cut down somewhat?

They should play "renegade" to appease the WDVE 'yinzer' crowd..

Hah. When that phenom started (if it can be called that), my suggestion was that Pitt should start playing "Blue Collar Man" at a similar point in games when the Steelers do so. Y'know, our variation of the same (yah know, since we wear blue and everything...). Anyway, of course it got no traction. And in fairness, though it has that similar arena-rock fist-pump groove, it's actually a pretty bleak song, lyric wise...then again, perhaps it's appropriate that way.

I don't think the North 'Video' board has sound. Heinz (at least when built) the steelers went with a 'concentrated' sound system as opposed to PNC park 'distributed' sound system. The distributed system installed at PNC Park consists of small groups of speakers situated throughout the ballpark. The concentrated system features a large group of speakers clustered in one spot, sending sound in one direction.

Next time Pitt has a throwback game (next season from the sound of it), how about there be no music at all, except from the band? That would be an interesting experiment.

Do ppl pay attention to college games on TV? Music blares EVERYWHERE FSU, Ohio State, Wisconsin, etc...; that is the atmosphere. It promotes these stadiums with bleacher to get up off of their butts and MAKE SOME NOISE!!!! Not sit all cozy in their seat backs and NOT STAND AND GET LOUD on 3rd and long.

I've been to Tennessee, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Marshall, etc...you can't hear yourself talk sometimes and it's awesome

Sounds like a game at ND. At ND, the focus is on the football game -- no side acts.

Go Pitt.

As some were saying above, the complaints may be more because the choice of songs more than the volume. Generational thing.

At those places you cite (all 'blue blood' programs except Marshall), what was the actual mix of songs? Did it trend toward traditional geezer rock popular with graybeards and paunchy middle-agers, or did it trend younger, hip-hop, distorted-guitar, or (God forbid) voice-box-pop to cater to the students? I'd guess in places like that, with large numbers of higher-donating alums vs. students, they played more stuff like the Steelers play here (at equally high volume) ... which, like I said, elicits very little complaint.

This is a cool idea. It'd be neat for the band I imagine too.

At those places they play loud blaring Hip-Hop & Rock as that's what the players on the field want to hear...last year it was "Turn Down For What?!?!"

No need to guess the music, when these games get going listen to the music in the background on 3rd downs and at kick-off, u can hear it through the television
