GAME WEEK

New season is upon us, new depth chart is out.

Any surprises? I thought Temple starting is, has played sparsely and a few positions we seem very thin at.
Surprises

- Temple over Johnson
- Jacoby out for season and in comes Collier
- Battle not listed and I did mention in another thread that he had a cast on his ankle so he may be out for the season as well

Not a huge fan of releasing these at all, in the age of the transfer portal. We've already seen one player get mad over it.

But I think Collier starting (with Jacoby being out) is a surprise. I expected it to be Baer. I also don't put a ton of stock in the two-deep for now, because it'll likely change. I think the initial one usually panders to seniority a bit.

Goals for this game?

Win by 20+
Starters out by second series of second half
no injuries

Is that realistic or is this a YSU fiasco?
Eh the YSU game was a first time head coach, first time offensive coordinator, and first time defensive coordinator all in one game (if my memory is right), and a team decimated by transfers. Wofford won 3 games last year; they don't have the type of talent YSU can get sometimes. Yes, we'll win this by 20+.

Depends which YSU disaster he's referring to. I could argue there were three of them, ha.

2015 - Lost Conner and only beat them by 8

2017 - They took us to OT

Why is Derrick Davis 4th on the depth chart? I was hoping to see him split carries with Hammond. I’m not crazy about C’Bo although I know that some are.

This team is way deeper than any team we have had in a long time. If a starter is not doing his job the backup will go in! I think the YSU debacle type game is behind us.

Eh, I don't know about that. This team is sort of a hodgepodge between older players who are mostly solid but not exceptional and younger guys who, while they may turn into big time players, are still, well... young.

Agreed. I think maybe on the lines I feel good about their depth. But at WR they have numbers, not depth. Mumpfield and Means had moments, but nothing that would keep a DC up at night. The freshmen may well show, but also unproven.

Looking at the 2 deep it appears necessary at WR and LB to avoid the injury bug; rather thin. Surprised to see Louis and Lovelace on the 2 deep but no Bass?

I think we play so many guys on Saturday the depth chart doesn’t matter a whole lot and those that make plays will be playing more

Green, being a captain, probably doesn't care about Week 1 depth charts and was happy to see Jules get a little acknowledgment for a strong off-season.
