Woke up this morning kind of excited to watch some basketball. Figured at worst I would just have to run an HDMI cord from the computer to the TV. Turns out, there is zero video of the game available. How hard would it have been to get some Comm students together and broadcast the game? Pretty disappointed by that especially after being able to watch IUP take on Illinois on Friday. I'm also pretty sure that the only radio of the game is from Gannon's crew up in Erie.'

Anyway now that I'm done complaining, I hope Pitt takes care of business and provides a little bit of entertainment for the diehards that attend and spark my interest for next week. I'll be honest, I haven't put much thought into this team just because of the football teams success.

I know, I know TV would be great!

Game will be on radio on 90.5 WERG-FM (Erie). Maybe we can listen live over the internet? Also, Gannon U. is going to have a "Live stats" feed through their basketball website.

Oh man.......WERG. LOL. I will never forget, and we never let him forget, the time he played an REM song and he called them "rem" as is rhymes with them.

We were like "Greg, wait you don't know who REM is??" LOL.....

It's not like Pitt spent millions of dollars to upgrade the video capabilities at the Pete or anything.

The only time exhibition games have ever been televised was when Steve Pederson launched that thing on The Comcast Network. That said, if they are going to broadcast literally every single home olympic sport regular season games, many probably not even watched by 10 people, then I'm not sure why they wouldn't broadcast an exhibition basketball game, which would probably be watched by a few thousand.

A few thousand? I doubt that. Maybe a few hundred. It's only an exhibition game and there is no buss around this team, and rightfully so.

I mean on the ESPN app, not live. There will probably be 500 at the game. A few thousand would watch on the app.

How’d they look? Assuming Capel playing a variety of guys and lineups ?

Im only watching the box score and listening.

The one thing that sticks out like a sore thumb was John Hugley. He was 1-5 shooting, 2-7 from the line, with 4 turnovers, in the first half. That is about as big of a disaster of a single first half a single player can possibly have. Those numbers hurt the entire teams numbers across the board. That is beyond terrible play.

Femi and Horton were the 2 big players on offense. Femi has 11 points with 2 assists and only played 13 minutes. Horton with 12 points. The two of them shot 67% which is what you want to see in a game like this.

Team defense held them to 27% shooting which is respectable given the competition. Hugley needs to step up.

Pitt wins 89-64

Odukale with 20 points, 7 boards, 3 assists, 0 turnovers, and was +24 in the game. He shot 60% from the floor and 78% from the line. He was the preseason expected go to star and he played like it today.

Horton with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 0 turnovers

Gueye with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists.

Those were the 3 stars.

Hugley needs to be much better than what he did today on 1-7 shooting with 4 turnovers. Sibande left the game with injury.

The biggest question right now on the team is wing. By far. We really need to get Burton back. I watched game highlights, not the game, and in the highlights I watched Jeffress get burned twice from the 3 point line and once from midrange, and that was in a simple highlight film and this is the same issue he had last year, not closing out on shooters fast enough.

I am throwing this game out for Hugley because his first game last year was a disaster too and this is only a scrimmage.. I expect him to be significantly better next game. Im not sure there is any other takeaway from this scrimmage.

He was pressing a bit. But just seeing a guy using force down low was nice.
He's got to just settle down.

I was there.

Odukale will be just fine as a lead guard I think. He finishes well, is very loud on the bench supporting his team, he just seems like the guy. Needs work on free throws.

Mo is super lanky. He has good handles with the ball, including a nifty drive to the hoop and 1 in the second half. Will probably get bullied around by bigger, better ACC centers, but he looks like a ton of fun to watch.

Horton shot well from what I remember, he kinda just blends in as the off guard

Like someone else said, our wings are just kinda……there. Collier and Jeffress didn’t really impress me or do much, outside of like a 2 minute burst by Noah. Payton, Santos, and Oladapo just felt like bodies. Nothing stood out to me there.

Hughley was meh. Tons of missed FTs and shots, but he rebounded at least.

Basically I was telling my buddy, Pitt feels like a team of role players right now. We’ll see if they continue to develop into anything.

Hard to make anything out of these games but I'll give it a shot

- best thing for me is that Gueye seemed like a legit ACC player. He's definitely not a Center. He's a stretch 4. Even closer to a 3 than a 5 despite his height. He is pencil then, but athletic. Shoots 3s, drives to the bucket. Very unique player. He started at the 4.

- Jeffress started at the 3 and didn't do anything of note. Made a 3 after airballing one and missing 1 or 2 others. Had a nice follow half-dunk.

- Femi looked solid

- Hugley may not have had a good game statistically but I like him. Big, more athletic than he looks. I think he's going to have a good year

- Horton was Horton

- Collier barely played

- Oladapo didnt play much

- Amaduson got in very late. I forgot he was on the roster. He actually had a really nice post move and looked active and engaged. I wrote him off as that lottery ticket that you know is a longshot, but after tonight, I wouldn't be shocked if he's in the rotation as a senior.

Both teams ran the NBA pick and roll, 2 shooters in the corner offense. More college teams are going to this and its making the college game terribly boring. For those that think NBA Basketball is boring, imagine that with players nowhere near as good.

Every time Gueye fell down, and it happened several times, I worried that he got broken in half and wasn't going to be able to continue. He is very, very thin. He may turn out to be an ACC player, but it will be interesting to see if bigger guys simply bully him around.

Hugley was super active, both on offense and defense. To no real effect. Let's just hope it was "first game back" jitters, because we need him to be much, much better than he was tonight.

But on a high note, I think that it is pretty clear that if we get traded to the PSAC West we will probably contend for a division championship!

If we have a Stallings like season..........and from this game it is possible, very possible we can. It is time to end this. I am sad to say. No reason to keep this staff.

I was thinking the same thing. Gueye might feast in some OOC games but the ACC, even a down ACC will be a different challenge. His best asset besides the blocks is the handle IMO, it’s legit for a big.

I think that may turn out to be how it is. We have some of the parts, but we are missing "the guy".
We look to me like the kind of team that a coach takes over in year 1. A disjointed roster, 1-2 decent players. Extremely little depth.

this is year 4 when we should be rocking and rolling and instead we have like 3-4 players who can really play and Capel just filled a class with one freshman and a bunch of unheralded transfers….I mean.

You’re likely not wrong but the ‘Extremely little depth’ assessment seems like a 180 reversal from what’s long been stated herein about our new patchwork roster. I thought the drum beat has been that we have more depth than we’ve had in a long time, at least w/r to Capel’s tenure.
