In the scope of things, when looking at a team's resume at seasons end.. The same questions always appear.. SOS, RPI, W/L... how does this game end up "registering".. Will it be part of Pitt's "body of work", or is it just discounted because it wasn't completed.. OR... because of the odd scenario, although very early in the year-- does this STICK with folks around the country?

I know-- I know... Right now nothing matters.. but if we are 21-12 or something at season's end.. It just might...

From what I saw tonight, my prediction that Pitt finishes 4th in the ACC looks solid... and we won't be sweating on selection sunday.

I honestly think (and it's just my opinion of course), that this game or "non-game" will not matter in the slightest to the committee. Why?? Because Pitt showed how much improved they are by leading the #9 team in the country at the half.

If Pitt plays anywhere close to this level throughout the season they should EASILY be in the NCAA Tournament.

The game never happened. The committee has a million things to consider. If anybody believes us leading Gonzaga by 2 at half on Nov. 13 is going to even be thought of in that room, they are crazy.

I doubt it would be discussed. Even 15 seeds and 16 seeds hang with their opponents for awhile. They have no way to know how this would have finished. If playing half a ga,e well mattered, they should look at every first half of every game all season to see who hung with whom.

They probably won't think about this game, but how unfair would it be for us to be passed over potentially by a team with an RPI 5 points higher with the same record? It's probably the right decision for the committee in March to not look at this and say well Pitt could've beat Gonzaga. But if we're on the bubble and it comes down to the committee liking the team with a higher RPI, that would be absolutely criminal to ignore this game.

I agree with all of that.. but it should not hurt SOS, in my opinion. It was scheduled and played, and that is big come RPI time.

It will hurt a bit I imagine. Win or lose, it was going to be a plus game for the RPI and SOS.

No, this game is different because it was cancelled mid game, something that rarely has been done and it will stand out. Again, if Pitt plays this way throughout the season I don't think this "half" will matter at all BUT, if Pitt is on the bubble the committee could use it to sway the Panthers into the tournament.

I don't agree, but no way to prove either of us right without being in the room with the committee, so no argument any further from me. Go Pitt.

Exactly. It should still help us there. Not only was it scheduled but we actually played the game... well, half of it. No reason to not count that while awarding nobody a victory.

Like I said, not worth arguing too much about because nobody can know if they will consider it or not. But let's say they called the game after 18 minutes, 15 minutes, 10 minutes. At what point do they say the game wasn't enough minutes to be a consideration? We once led SU 18-0, then they went on a 19-0 run. I just really don't think they will have the time or any reason to consider a partial game. No fault to either team, but it is what it is. A wasted opportunity, win or lose, because we were looking good.

I agree it should not be discussed as a potential win. I'm just saying it should still make our SOS look better, but will not count towards that even though it was scheduled and we did show up and play. If they called the game after the opening tip, the same would be true. I don't think in any way they should think that because we led Gonzaga we showed we're a legit team. I'm saying because we "played" Gonzaga it should still be reflected in our SOS, which is a big thing to the committee.

I see, interesting take. Not sure. I still tend to think it won't, but have no idea for sure. Actually, we may know tomorrow if we check Kenpom or something like that.

Actually the only reason I bring it up is because I doubt it will either, which is what I think is wrong. IMO Pitt deserves more credit in SOS for this game than say Duke would for scheduling someone like a Tulsa that isn't good, wasn't good when they scheduled them either. But say that team has a good season and Duke or whoever played them early. Technically they're getting rewarded for playing a tough OOC opponent, when their intent was to schedule an easy win. Pitt on the other hand intended to play a good team, but unusual circumstances prevented an outcome from being decided.

I know it's way too early to be thinking about crazy things that may or may not happen in March, but there is always a lot of debate on Selection Sunday. It probably won't get brought up, but should only in the case that Pitt is on the bubble and the committee tries to say they scheduled a weak OOC slate.

They said on the radio that the game will be officially considered a "tie." So it should be considered in Pitt's overall body of work and strength of schedule - as a tie.

So if playing a highly ranked team and losing to them is some kind of positive, then having a "tie" with them has to be a somewhat bigger positive... But I'm trying to use common sense.

Go Pitt.

Wow, if so I stand corrected. They should have shot FTs, like a shootout in hockey. First team to miss loses.

Good to hear. This is to an extent what I've been mentioning tonight. Credit at least has to be given for playing the game.

Point taken Joe, but if Pitt plays like this all season long, it shouldn't matter.
