As we know, non-conference SOS is a top-line metric that the committee uses and its the sole reason Pitt was left out. How many times did Lunardi say there's never been a team with a non-con SOS as bad as ours that's gotten in. Of course, he never said there's never been a bubble team with as many true road wins as us that has been left out but that's what he does. He drives the narrative. That said, ACC teams need to schedule better and maybe they've corrected some of that this year, not really sure but I found an easy hack to do exactly what they've always done but make their non-con SOS look extremely good. How?

Go to a 12-14 game ACC schedule. Play 8-10 extra OOC games vs ACC teams. These would be scheduled by the league and would look and feel like conference games but would go into the non-con bucket. Think about last year. Lets say the road game at Duke was a non-con. That skyrockets our non-con SOS and we probably make the tournament. It sounds ridiculous but they put so much weight on your non-con that its probably true.

My gawd man - let last year go.

This is the first thing you thought of after you took your morning sh*t??

The ACC and ESPN have no interest in reducing conference games and associated TV rights to them. Huge money losing idea

Reread it. We'd still play 20 ACC teams. But 6-8 of those games would be considered non-conference to hack the non-con SOS metric. ESPN owns the rights to all games hosted by an ACC school

That would be a "tricK' the NCAA wouldn't buy. They would just not consider them non-con games for purposes of evaluating the non-con schedule.

I like it. I've seen a few non-conference ACC games in football. Like, Wake played UNC in the non-con so they didn't have to wait six years in between games.

That said, I would hope the committee would just realize how stupid it is to begin with to overweight those games and not take the entirety of the schedule into equal consideration.

Ya know, I hear the ref in UVA/Pitt football game lives in Virginia and is good friends with several members of last year's NCAAT selection committee.

As I’ve told you before, outside the box isn’t the same as three rooms down the hall.

Everybody comes up with goofy ideas from time to time. And then they say them out loud, and think "yeah, that doesn't actually make much sense." SMF says it out loud and thinks "eureka, I've cracked the code of the world! I need to tell everyone this idea as soon as possible!"

I came here to see you espouse of the mwc philosophy that you continually prop up. A little disappointed with this insight.
