Just looking at the 2 stars vs the guys we recruited that were ranked 5.9 or higher from 2010. Now please, yes we all know that a 5.9 4 star rated recruit should have a better career than a 5.3 2 star kid. That is not the debate. The post here just highlights how much different in impact that say two more 5.9 kids could make for this program vs the 2 stars. I am not listing kickers.
2010. 1 5.9 4 star Todd Thomas. 1 2 star, Brandon Sacco.
2011. This is the lost class. Zero kids rated 5.9 4 stars. The two stars...........egads, Josh Brinson, Javonte Pitts, Justin Jackson, Steve Williams, Ron Jones, Jason Frimpong, Isaac Bennett, Corey Davis, Zenel Duhmasej. Ahh yeah. Didn't make those names up. I am sure there were "the coaches know better" arguments on the board with the same people 3-4 years later claiming "the cupboard was bare" arguments.
2012. 2 guys rated 5.9 or higher, Chad Voytik and Rushel Shell. Say what you want, but Shell's debut game looked like he was going to be the "next one". Unfortunately he was a 5 star knucklehead too. 2 guys were also two stars, Gabe Roberts and Mike Capara. Yeah.
2013. 2 guys rated 5.9 or higher, Dorian Johnson (a 5 star!) and Tyler Boyd. Several 2 stars, Jeremiah Telani, Zach Poker, Terrish Webb, Devon Edwards, Reggie Green, Carson Baker, Titus Howard. Not a real good year for the "stars don't matter crowd".
2014. No guys 5.9 or higher. 2 stars? Hez Trahan. Rori Blair. Quintin Wirginis and...Dennis Briggs. OK
2015. 1 5.9 4 star. Jordan Whitehead. 2 Stars?? Gentry Ivey, Rafael Ivory-Lopes, Ben DiNucci, Allen Edwards, Dane Jackson.
2016. 1 5.9er. Damar Hamlin. 3 2 stars. Rashard Weaver. Patrick Jones. Elias Reynolds. I think Weaver is going to be very good this year, and we hear rave reviews on Hamlin right now.
2017. 1 6.0 4 star, Paris Ford. 1 2 star, Owen Drexel.
2018. 1 5.9er, Michal Salahuddin no stars.
Now again, not trying to be obvious. We know almost every time the 5.9 star kid will have an impact over the 2 star. But well when you see the lost of 2 stars, very few, and I mean very few actually contributed in a positive manner, if they contributed at all. And that kiddies is why there was all of this angst over the past week.
