It has been reported that Pitt only has 2 OVs left through August. Not so fast my friend. If correct, here is some good news on that front from The Sporting News:
According to a report from ESPN, the Pittsburgh basketball team has just two official recruiting visits left until Aug. 1. Former coach Kevin Stallings and his staff used 19 during their first year to sign 11 players and three last year to sign two guys. The NCAA rule states a program only gets 24 visits over two years.
While this is not good news for a new coach coming in with the hopes of building a new program, there also appears to be an exception to the rule.
According to the NCAA rule book, there's an exception if a new head coach is hired. The rule says the university may provide up to 25 percent of the original limitation of official visits, provided the previous head coach used 75 percent or more of the visits during that academic year.
That would give Capel 6 OVs to work with if I'm understanding the rule properly. Not great, but a hell of a lot better than 2.
If this has already been reported, pardon me. News has been flowing so fast that it is difficult to keep up.
